Chapter 31:
Transforming into The
Lost Prince of JotunheimLoki found himself back in the cave under the temple, following the call from the water as he leaned over the edge of the well, looking into the blackness below. "... Show me the future," he spoke in a heavy voice, reaching down toward the water to call on it, "I command you!"
The blackness of the well answered, blinding him with the sudden light that poured out, from within, making him stagger back and fall onto the sharp rocks. He snarled, but quickly went silent as he watched the images around him.
Ruin. That was the only way he could describe what he was seeing. The realms destroyed, and a woman with black hair sitting on a throne made of the corpses of the residents. The Goddess of Death.
"No!" He said, shivering and shaking his head. "There must be another way! Show me another way!" He said, getting back on his feet. "Show me a future of the realms at peace!" He demanded, and after the moment, the images shifted and he suddenly was standing face to face with himself.
He was himself, as a great Jotunn, wearing a crown made of ice and sitting on the throne, and right away he noticed how similar he looked to Laufey. He turned around, seeing that across from him was Thor, holding Gungnir and sitting on the Asgardian throne, looking so much like Odin it was scary.
He felt himself give a shuddering breath full of relief, but then realized it was not just their appearances that made them look like their fathers, it was their faces. Thor's face was that of a war lord, filled with secrets and rage, but retrained, and Loki's face... Was that of sorrow and despair.
"Where is Nix," he whispered, hearing the water slush around reluctantly in the well, "SHOW ME!" He commanded, and the images shifted once again, showing Loki kneeling in front of a statue, crying, saying how it was all his fault. A statue of Nix.
"No..." He whispered, his voice barely audible. "... How? What happened?! Show me how we got here!" He demanded, walking to the well and putting his hands on the stone. He watches as once again the images shifted around him, making him dizzy as he was suddenly standing in the middle of a snow field.
He was watching Nix and Odin fight, Asgardian warriors laying dead all around them, clearly killed by Nix's hand, but it was clear she was going to lose this fight. Loki screamed out in pain as he watched Gungnir plunge into Nix's chest, filling her lungs with her own blood as she staggered back.
"Even after being blessed with the foresight to see the future," she snarled, her voice ice cold, "you are still as blind as back then. My mentor was wrong, it's not your eyes that were the problem... It was your heart, I won't make the same mistake!" And with that she threw a dagger made of ice, piercing the Allfathers heart and making him drop back dead.
"Loki," Nix whispered, falling to the ground as her blood painted the snow red, "I'm so sorry Loki... I'm... I'm......" And with that she breathed her last sigh, her eyes closing as the images disappeared.
Loki was left kneeling beside the well, his tears turning to ice as they hit the enchanted stones. "How do I stop it? How do I save us all?!" He screamed, looking down into the well. "Tell me what I'm supposed to do!"
The well called to him, just like it had before, and he leaned in closer, to hear the answer he was so desperate for. It didn't matter that the black water was starting flowing over the edges of the stones, slowly filling up the cave as he leaned in closer, and closer, until suddenly the hands from within the well bursted out of the water, wrapping it's claws around his neck as it dragged him down and-
"NO!" Loki sat up, covered in sweat as his hands flew to his neck, gasping for air as he was trying to remember where he was. He looked around disorientated until he recognised Nix's room, felt the soft fur under him from the nest, and heard the breathing from the woman laying beside him.
