Chapter 11:
Meeting The Rest of
The Realms Diplomats

The tranquility of the morning could not last forever, and soon there was word that Queen Nix needed to get ready for the diplomatic meeting. The diplomats from the other realms were on their way.

"The other diplomats?" Loki asked, a bit shocked. Yes, his father had talked about talking with the other realms, but he had also said he would talk with the Jotuns first.

"Most likely planning to have a sort of round table conversation," Nix said, a small smirk on her face, "I don't know whether to be insulted or flattered." She dismissed the messenger and turned back toward her quarters, Loki quickly following along with a few other Jotuns.

"Most likely meant as an insult," one of the females said, her voice cold and her eyes hard as she glanced over at Loki. "Queen Nix, I assure you that I knew nothing about this!" Loki quickly said, "I had nothing to do with this!" He didn't know if he spoke because he felt like he needed to defend himself or because it was the truth.

"Worry not Loki, I did not think you did," Nix said, waving a dismissive hand as she walked over to her wardrobe again. She was currently dressed in an outfit similar to the other Jotuns who were wearing robes, but it seemed she wanted to change again for the diplomatic talks.

"And," Nix continued, "I see it more like a silly threat, which means I believe I should be flattered." Her chukeling was cheerful, but not carefree, having a hard edge to it. "I believe he wanted me to feel outnumbered. After all, I imagine the diplomats he has invited are ones he is already on speaking terms with, and ones we are not."

A male and female Jotun, both in robes, started assisting Nix in getting dressed. Loki felt a blush spread on his face and he quickly turned around to give her some privacy. The other males did the same, one being a little slower until he got a good smack in the back of the head from one of the others.

"Perhaps," Loki admitted, "though it very well might be an innocent idea, after all The Allfather did tell me to make your stay here comfortable."

"He did?" Nix asked, sounding slightly surprised. "But he didn't tell you of this plan? Perhaps it was just a sudden idea he had gotten, one that he didn't think of the consequences through on." Her voice got lower, a soft muttering, so Loki was not sure he heard the last part right. "Would not be the first time."

Loki wanted to comment on that but didn't. While part of him wanted to defend his father's honor, he knew now was not the time nor the place. He didn't imagine anyone here wanted to hear it, and he just started bonding with the Jotuns, no need to spoil that.

And to be truthful, Loki did see where Nix was coming from. If his father truly invited the other diplomats in bad faith it would be a disaster, but he could not imagine his father doing this without thinking, there must be a reason.

Loki just had a bad feeling it was not a good reason.

Loki entered the meeting room with Nix. It was customary for a diplomat to be accompanied by a member of the Asgarian court when these kinds of meetings were held. They were the first of the diplomatic groups here.

Each diplomatic group got three chairs, one for the diplomat themself, one for their right hand, and one for their Asgardian companion.

The Jotun acting as Nix's right hand was a male whom Loki had learned was named Eben. He was wearing robes too and held what looked to be a big book, multiple scrolls, and loose papers with some notes on them. He didn't speak much but didn't seem dismissive or uninterested in Loki either, more that he was enjoying observing more than conversing.
