Chapter 36:
Out of the Darkness, Into
The Light of a New Dawn
The Spirits of the Well had been kind enough to give Loki a lungful of air before disappearing with the images of his mothers, but those jerks had not given him any kind of directions of where to go from here or how to get out!
At this point he was gonna drown! What the fuck?!
Thanks for showing me the way to bring peace to all the realms, but what use was this information if I'm just going to die here?!
And just as he thought things couldn't get any worse he felt something hit his stomach, HARD, and it knocked out the last few air bubbles he had. WHAT THE HEL?! He grabbed onto the thing that had so rudely hit him, fully intended on destroying it as his last act of vengeance until he recognized the weapon.
How in all of the nine realms did Mjølnir get here?!
And then, while holding onto the rem of his brother's hammer, it flew off, taking him with it, and as it rushed through the water Loki understood what had happened at once and held onto it for dear life!
The hammer snapped back into Thor's hand, and Loki could finally breathe as he was out of that cursed well! Nix quickly pulled him out the last few feet and wrapped a blanket around him. "It worked!" Thor exclaimed, surprised. "Holy Yggdrasil! I never thought about using my hammer like that!"
Loki coughed up the last bit of water from his lungs before gasping for the air he so desperately needed, looking at Thor with wide eyes. "Did you just use your weapon to save me?!" He asked bewildered, rubbing his sore stomach and groaning.
"Yes! It was Nix's idea! I think I'm finally starting to understand what dad meant with a weapon that was not just for destruction!" Thor said, looking at his hammer with a bright smile. "Oh dear Mjølnir, I missed you so! Let us never be apart again!"
Loki rolled his eyes and just turned his attention back to Nix, who was holding him so close that breathing was starting to get difficult again. "I'm okay!" He said, wrapping her arms around her and sighed, "I'm okay."
"Are you sure?!" Nix asked, her hands finding his cheeks as she looked into his eyes, a worried frown "... You look... Well..." She made a face. "Different."
Loki frowned at that and looked down at his hands, realizing his skin was blue and had an ethereal glow to it. "Oh," he whispered, surprised, turning around his hand to watch the magical shimmer "... I guess the magic concealing my appearance stopped..." Perhaps because he now knew who he was.
"I don't think it's just that Loki," Nix said seriously, lifting him up and wrapping the blanket more securely around him. "Let's return to our room, Thor, if you don't want to faceplant the floor again, close your eyes!" She warned as she grabbed the brother, who was looking at his hammer like it was his long lost true love, and teleported off.
Loki closed his eyes himself, but found the trip not nearly as disorientating as before, and opened them with a curious gaze. He would have to experiment with that later. They were indeed back in Nix's room and his brother, being stupidly stubborn like always, had not heeded Nix's warning and was currently face down on the floor.
Nix ignored him, instead moving herself and Loki in front of the mirror and, after quickly drying him off with a towel, stepped back to let him look at himself.
The first thing he noticed was that he had grown. It was not by a lot, but it was still noticeable, and his hair had grown some too, the extra volume adding to the effect of him being taller.
The second thing he noticed was the markings on his body. He had never paid much attention to them when his Jotunn skin had been exposed in the past, but he could tell they were a lot more remarkable now, decorating his skin in ways that reminded him of magical signals, and he realized the reasons Nix's marking had seemed other wordly was most likely the same reason his was now. It was a sign of magic from the temple, which seemed to have accepted him as one of their own.
