Chapter 9:
Confessing to previous
Sins and Guilt

Loki woke up early the next morning, staring at the ceiling as if it had personally offended him. He thought about just turning over in bed and going back to sleep, but he knew he was fully awake and that he had stuff to do anyway. So with a heavy sigh, he got up and quickly went through his morning routine.

Normally with breakfast, he had a choice between eating in the great hall or his room, but since there was a big feast the previous night, it was still being cleaned up so his choice was just his room today. That in no way meant he had to eat in his bed, no, Loki's bedroom was really multiple rooms all connected together. Probably the size of a small house, most of the rooms in the castle were like that.

Loki took the tray from the servant, sending them away like normally as he took his food to his table. While Loki enjoyed being pampered from time to time, he honestly also enjoyed taking care of himself, it was sort of like a reminder that he could. And he would also like to be alone at the moment.

He sat down by his small dining table and looked out of the slightly stained window. It was crafted in such a way that he could look out without trouble, but people would have a harder time looking in, giving him privacy while not depriving him of the view.

He poured himself a cup of tea as he tried to get his thoughts in order. He had accomplished so much these past few days alone, and he had also achieved some things that he had always wanted. His father had entrusted him with the throne for a bit, his brother admitted he was wrong, and the people of Asgard even seemed to respect him more.

So why? Why was he feeling so empty inside? He got what he wanted!

But how had he gotten it? Through cheating, manipulating, and lying like always.

Loki leaned back in his chair as he sipped his tea. Was that why this victory felt so hollow? Because he did not truly deserve it? His teeth came together with a hard clack as he put his cup down again. No, he had done what he had to do! No one could argue against that. Besides, it's not like anyone got hurt...

Except for some Jotuns...

He moved his hand to his face in a sign of distress as he realized part of the problem. He had used the Jotuns as nothing more than sacrificial pawns, because back then he had not cared about them, he would probably have destroyed their entire realm if it meant earning his father's respect.

But after meeting Nix his feelings had changed. His perspective on the Jotuns had changed a lot, and the more time he spent with her and observed those close to her, the more he realized how wrong he had been for the deaths he caused.

Loki was not thinking about the one who died in the small battle Thor had started, he was thinking of the Jotuns he had led into the treasury, knowing that all they would find there was their deaths. He had done it in a way that could never be traced back to him, but now even that had consequences.

No one had ever been able to hide from Heimdale's gaze, except for Loki, but now Nix appeared, a person Heimdale had never seen before or even known the existence of. He heard the whispers around the castle, mentioning if she could hide herself from Heimdale, what was stopping her from hiding a few thieves.

Loki quickly finished his breakfast and got up. He had thought about throwing suspicion onto the queen but had felt dirty just thinking of it. But now that the rumors had spread on their own, what was he gonna do about it?

He truly wanted the peace to work out, but he also did not wanna be caught having led Jotuns into the castle. He would lose all the good faith he had earned with his father! Unless he could twist the story somehow, and make it all look like part of a bigger plan, one that did not involve making his brother look bad as was the original intent.
