"Why do you leave so early these days?" Pa asked as I grabbed my keys from the counter.
He was dressed in a typical work suit, having coffee while staring at his Today newspaper. Since I found out about Riley, he has been more verbal, and I think Dad was the cause. I wasn't holding anything against him; I understood why he did, what he did, and I didn't hate him but I wasn't going to tell him. What's wrong with letting him suffer a little, huh?
"He is going to pick Arlo up," Dad interjected with a small smile at the corner of his lips.
Dad was heading to the back of the counter to make himself a cup of tea when Pa pulled him towards him and kissed him on the cheek. Surprised Dad's cheek reddened as he got out of Pa's hold and made his tea.
"At least wait for me to leave before flirting." I taunted, "I'm heading out; bye Dad, Pa."
"Will you come for lunch?"
"Nope Arlo is making lunch, but thanks," I said before heading to my car and driving to Arlo's house, finding Arlo waiting for me.
I have been worried about him since yesterday. I mean, sure, Arlo called me yesterday to assure me he was alright. I wasn't sure what his mother did to him, but from what I could see, he looked like he wasn't physically hurt, and I was thankful. I greeted him with a smile, and he kissed me on the cheek.
"What happened yesterday? Did you eat?"
"I told you, I worked it out with Mom. She said she wants to change and she is not ditching us anymore and yes I ate yesterday and today I ate cornflakes." He smiled reassuring me. I nodded. I wasn't exactly good at this trust thing but I was trying trust to Arlo. Riley might have fucked up with my trust but I was certainly working hard to gain it back. "I made you stir-fry chicken...well it was leftovers but I customized it and replaced the rice with carrot strips and broccoli." Arlo loved talking about food...well cooking to be exact.
He started making lunch for me just this week. He said it was the least he would do since I kept giving him rides. At first, I thought it was pretty cute and that Arlo was just an average aspiring cook but his food tasted good and that's coming from me. I noted how Dad could use the help from him. Seriously.
"Thanks, Cupcake," I said taking the lunch and kissing him on the cheeks which were turned slightly red.
I dropped off Arlo at his school and headed to work. The day went along pretty great and soon enough I was waving to Arlo goodbye as I drove out of his driveway and onto mine.
I was eating dinner when Callen walked in the sitting room with Jillian right next to him, I raised a brow curious about where they were coming from.
"Your dads left a while before we headed out, they said they'd be back Monday," Callen said before sitting on my bed and Jillian standing there all awkward.
"I know that already dumb ass...where are you guys from?" I asked taking my phone to text Arlo.
*Did you eat?* I asked in the text.
"Jillian forgot some stuff at his house so I accompanied him there."
Jillian's house was around twenty minutes away and Aunt Sandy left him at our care because apparently he liked it here. Too bad Dad and Pa were gone this weekend they planned a mini honeymoon as if every day isn't a honeymoon to them.
Apparently, they needed space from me, hell I need space from myself too so it was understandable.
"Okay, remember Arlo and Tobias are coming over tomorrow so I just want to make you understand that if--"
