Chapter Thirty

Shaelynn's Point of View

It was a fast trip to the Jolly Roger, where Hook was sure to have Peter Pan captive. We were anxious to finish this once and for all.

As the ship comes into view, we settle on a cloud to decide on our first move.

"How terrible!" I put a hand over my mouth to mask my disgust.

Down below, the pirates are lined up with pixies in their hand, shaking them up and down and draining them of their dust. They barely sparkle anymore.

"Peter had said he suspected trouble in Tink's home. This must've been it." Jacob spoke up with a shake of his head.

Oliver points to the poop deck, where Peter Pan is tied up and handled by two very large pirates. "Oh no!"

I instantly feel horrible when I get a glance at Peter Pan's face. Clearly these pirates have been torturing him for a while as he struggled. I assumed he had struggled, for surely he would, wouldn't he?

His face looked depressed and lost. A boy who hasn't been truly happy for a while. I couldn't shake the feeling that it was my fault.

"Here's the deal," a voice interrupted my thoughts. I looked over to see Danny explaining. "Once we show our faces on that ship, those pixies are gonna' go wild. They'll be the perfect distraction! That's when we'll fight and Pan will break free."

Ben scowls. "You seem awfully optimistic, Dread. Are you sure we are to trust you?"

Danny groans and makes a face at me like I'm supposed to defend him. I open my mouth to protest, but other eyes seem to follow his gaze. It seemed it was up to me to decide if Danny was trustworthy or not.

Danny had been nothing but trouble since he joined up with the Lost Boys, so surely he could be setting us up for a trap; but I couldn't convince myself that was true. Captain Hook had had him locked up in the same cell as me, and that's when I got to see his true self. I could sense how much he wanted a companion, someone who understood him. Hook had betrayed him. And what would Danny get out of this if Captain Hook had plans only to be rid of him? Danny wasn't dumb enough to believe Hook cared about him enough to take him back in.

I bit my lip and then answered, "Danny has a point. His plan is solid. I say we trust him."

Danny smirks towards a frowning Ben.

Jacob lifts a finger to the sky. "But we should alert Peter Pan that we're here first."

Oliver grins and Ben shushes him, followed with a nod to Jacob. Ben raises his hands and makes a cawing sound to the air. Jacob pulls us all down behind the cloud so as not to be seen.

The pirates don't seem to notice, for they're too busy laughing and joking about their plans; but there was no denying that Peter Pan heard. His head pops up and his eyes scan the sky. He clenches his fists and lowers his face again with a grunt.

I felt the urge to scream out that I was here and that I had come back for him. Of course I didn't, for the sake of his and our safety, but minute by minute I felt the need to see him again.

I hadn't noticed Ben and Jacob having a quiet discussion until Oliver poked my side, telling me to listen in.

"So Oli and I will go to free Peter, and Ben will take Danny to distract the pirates and fight them off." They all seem to agree.

Oliver is the one to speak up first. "What about May?" He holds my wrist with his small hands.

They all exchange a glance, and I frown. "If you think I'm not going down there you're all crazy."
