Chapter Twenty
Peter Pan's Point of View
It was quiet the whole journey to the cloud above Captain Hook's ship. I could almost feel the saddness dwelling on the Lost Boys as they followed me to the destination. Oliver still didn't understand why May was leaving. He knew it wasn't because of him or any of us, but he couldn't understand why Neverland couldn't feel like home to anyone.
And Oliver was right for once; not any of the Lost Boys could understand what it felt like. They could relate, but to them, Neverland was their home. I think they could fit in anywhere.
I, however, did understand the feeling of not belonging. I didn't belong in the other world, where you grow old. I had the same defeated feeling in my gut; of helplessness, of doubt, and of dejection. But I am strong enough to reject those feelings and love my life.
Finally we arrived at the cloud above Hook's ship; armed and ready to save May and Tink. I instructed Jacob to stay hidden on the cloud while the rest of us snuck aboard the ship. Later, Jacob was to join us once I gave him the signal.
Oliver and Ben followed me once more as I zoomed onto the Jolly Roger's poop deck. Once we were aboard, I creeped closer and closer to the dungeon in which May and Tinkerbell were held.
I had only a few steps when I heard a gasp from Oliver, and whipped my head backwards to check on him. There I saw two gamy old pirates with cutlasses to the boys' necks. When I looked to the skies, I saw Jacob nod to me and point behind me.
"Greetings, Peter Pan. We've been expecting you." A grating voice was heard from behind me.
I peered over my shoulder with a dark smirk. "Hello, Hook."
Shaelynn's (May's) Point of View
Once The pirates were gone, I glanced over to see who had joined me in the dungeon. I could tell by his dark hair that it was the one person responsible for landing me in the brig; Danny.
"What are you doing here." I muttered, not standing to look towards Danny. I was still angry that he had tricked me into getting captured by Hook. "Captain send you to gloat?"
"If I was here on my own doing, I wouldn't have to be thrown in." I heard a sigh come from his lips.
I pushed for a further explanation. "What do you mean?"
I could hear him carving things into the wooden floor, absent minded. I assumed he was embarrassed for what he was going to tell me.
"He's gotten what he wanted, and he's finished with me." I could sense the irritation in his voice. "You were right about Hook."
I should've felt pleasure in hearing him admit his wrong, but I couldn't feel anything but dismay. There was always the hope that a bad man would have some good in him. That wasn't the case today.
"That doesn't make what you did okay." I spat, unable to keep my feelings inside. He deserved to be locked up in this jail.
I rose my gaze, seeing Danny run his fingers through his hair with apathy.
"I won't let them hurt you, don't worry." He stood up and leaned against the wall. "They only want Pan, they don't care about you."
I turned to face him. "You can't make up for your mistakes by protecting me. It's too late to do the right thing!" I blurt out, "Let them hurt me, hurting Peter would give me the same feeling!"
I bit my tongue, cursing for speaking before I think. Then I continued, containing myself. "I should've been home by now. I would've forgotten everything about Neverland, and have had a new life. Now I'm stuck here having to dwell about it, thanks to you."
