Chapter Twenty Four
Danny's point of view
It's been weeks since the girl left, and I could tell it had taken a toll on Peter Pan greatly. I hadn't had lots of time to get to know Peter Pan before I ran from him, but it was clear that he was glum because of May's absence.
There were many rumors about Peter Pan and his effect on Neverland. One of them was that when Pan was happy, the island was bright and enjoyable; but when he was sad, the island was gloomy and isolated.
It seemed like Pan was as sad as he's ever been, for the island was not only full of thick, depressed fog; but the waters were stormy and dangerous. I had never seen the sea like this; so conflicted and full of dispirit. The waves have even drove Hook and his crew from their ship, forcing them to anchor the Jolly Roger and continue their wicked plans on foot.
Anyone with a brain had to be sure that the Captain had another plan up his red coated sleeve. I was lucky enough to know most of the details of this plan; or unlucky, for now the nasty pirates were patrolling all of Neverland searching for me, probably frightened that I'd spill their plans to Pan.
For the first time since I'd shown up to Neverland, I wasn't sure of my plans. I hadn't decided on if I was going to help Peter or stay out of it. One thing was for sure, I was no longer in Hook's side.
If I gave Pan a head start by letting him know of Hook's plans, the captain would surely fail. But if I showed my face to Peter, he would surely try to pelt it for betraying him in the first place.
If May was here, I could definitely spread the rumors through her; She was my connection to Peter. But now she was lost from the island, and I was at a loss of what to do.
I had settled on keeping away from the pirates and spying on the Lost Boys while unsure what to spend my time with. The young boys had been traveling the island and playing games lately, not as enthusiastically due to missing May, but still frequently. Peter Pan, however, had spent long days moping around with his fairy friend. The last I'd seen him was near the pixies hollow inspecting the missing fairies houses.
It seemed as though I wouldn't have to tell Pan much at all; if anything. Who knows what I'd decide to do. Whatever I chose, it would have to be chosen wisely; For I am always one step ahead.
-Shaelynn's point of view-
I unknowingly examined the wooden door in front of me as I rationalized on whether to follow my orders or go back to class and pretend I did. I didn't know why I was called to the office and who knew if it was a good thing or bad.
I reached for the doorknob and twisted it, just before it was ripped from my light grasp. There in front of me was the girl who had helped me after the bully attack that day of school, Beth.
She kept a small smile, waving me into the room and guiding me to the councilor's office. I hesitated to step in.
"Don't be nervous. They just brought you here to talk." She assured.
I nodded and slowly crept inside, a gush of lavender filling my nostrils. Books and knock knacks hung on the walls around the room in efforts to make it feel safe; but the deciding factor wasn't the decor.
Beth told me to sit on the sofa, and she followed by collapsing in the couch facing it. Crossing her legs, she sigh with content.
"What's going on?" I finally spoke up, feeling awkward about my unknowing.
She leaned forward. "We're supposed to talk; peer to peer. You can tell me what's on your mind and I can be a good listener and try to help you feel better." She probably noticed my confusion, so she added, "I'm a peer counselor."
