Chapter Twenty Two
Shaelynn's point of view-
I woke up to the sound of knocking, coming from across the room at the window. Turning the light on, I arose from my bed and tiptoed over. Opening the window, I spied the sky, with no stars except two; the second star to the right being Neverland. It wasn't bright like it usually was, and my mind wondered to Peter Pan.
Before I could stop myself, I remembered it all. My Neverland adventures with the Lost Boys and Peter Pan.
I heard the patter of steps and turned to the empty window; still empty. Then a rattle from the corner of the room, and I whipped around to once again find nobody but my shadow. Sighing, I walked to the window to close it once more.
I arose my hands to my face, rubbing my eyes with sleepiness. This was all a part of my imagination, for I was far to tired to be up at this hour.
I took one last look around the room; the closed window, my empty bed, my shadow against the wallpaper. I began sulking back into my bed and hiding under the covers.
The closed window, my empty bed, a shadow against the wallpaper. . .
My shadow. . . I had forgotten to put the light back out before I slept.
Getting up, I reached for the light switch to turn it off. Before I did, I realized a peculiar shape on the wall. I turned to spot my shadow, still their as it had been before. It wasn't following my every move as it was meant to do.
I mumbled questionably, unsure what to do about the shadow.
"There it is."
I turn to spot a dark figure standing upon the window sill, arms crossed. He steps into my room and is revealed as Peter Pan.
"Peter Pan...You're-"
"Horrid, old shadow keeps getting away." Peter launches onto the shadow and clutches it by it's ankle. "Would you do me a favor?"
I don't answer at first. "What is it?"
He holds out his hand which still holds his shadow. "I need you to sew it back on."
My face grows confused. "You can't sew a shadow back onto you." I shrug, forcing my point further. "A shadow shouldn't be able to leave your body at all."
Peter Pan sneers and his shadow shakes it's head. "Wendy had no problem believing what she's seen. Maybe you do belong here."
I ignore his statement and ask, "What are you doing here?"
What I really wanted to ask was why he was so carefree when he had acted so betrayed before.
"My shadow likes it here, and he always escapes to come to this house."
I raise my eyebrow, unconvinced.
Peter's shadow slips from his grasp and zooms out the window. "Well, at least he used to."
He marches past me, on his way to the window.
"Wait!" I shout, coming to face him again. I look up at his content expression. "You're not sour anymore about my absence in Neverland?"
Peter Pan scoffs. "We don't need you in Neverland anymore, Shae. You don't belong there."
He floats up into the night sky and disappears in the stars.
