The data from the writings contained in the Book of Revelation Chapter 13 will now be analyzed. The translation of each verse of the passage will be interposed into the Bible text as required.

Revelation 13:1

1 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.

2 And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.

The beast that arises from the sea is a Religious/Political power that has been in complete authority of Europe for 1,260 years as defined by other passages in Scripture.

Revelation 17:15

15 And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.

This passage indicates that the beast arose in an area in Europe where there was a substantial population, and not a wilderness with sparse population such as the Americas.

The sea beast has ten horns upon which are crowns -the horns symbolise the power to rule, and the crowns symbolise supreme individual rulership. This rulership is contained within the popes that were seated over the Church of Rome from AD 1798 to the present.

Historical Papal Governments

The ten historic popes that controlled the church of Rome from AD 1798 to AD 1939 are these 10 crowned horns:

Pius VI 1775 to 1799

Pius VII 1800 to 1823

Leo XII 1823 to 1829

Pius VIII 1829 to 1830

Gregory XVI 1831 to 1846

Pius IX 1846 to 1878

Leo XIII 1878 to 1903

Pius X 1903 to 1914

Benedict XV 1914 to 1922

Pius XI 1922 to 1939

In AD 1929, Italy (which had been established in AD 1870 from the Papal States and the Kingdom of Lombardy, without compensation to the Church) and the Church signed the Lateran Treaty. This Treaty recompensed the papacy for their loss of territory and granted the papacy a measure of civil power as a minor nation. The Lateran Treaty did not constitute a healing of the "deadly wound", as the Church had recovered only the religious portion of its former power; the civil or secular power had not been restored.
