10. The Truth (3)

Gio's Pov

The corridor was silent only the thunder of the lighting and the windows rattling sound could be heard. I stood outside the room where Enzo was getting treated. Dario sat on the only vacant spot available to sit. I could not gather the courage to sit next to him. His alpha pheromones were everywhere in the small space. The hospital had very few staff available because the emperor and the empress also got hurt so they needed the staff to look at their injuries and also at other palace staff who just got minor scratches.

Enzo who was in need for the medical attention, but he had to be treated in the end. He was last in the line as per the emperor. Dario was so angry when he reached the hospital and did not find any staff there, he grabbed the doctor from the palace and brought him here to treat his mate. It has already been 2 hours since the doctor started the check up and treatment for him, but no word was heard from them yet.

Dario was impatient and his leg was bouncing for a while now. I wanted to comfort him, but I could not do so. I could not find the courage to do that. The door to the room opens and the doctor comes out. He goes straight to my brother and asks him to follow him. Dario did not move for a second as his gaze was on the door which is separating his mate from him. He looked at the doctor and then they seem to have a mind link conversation. Dario looked at me and his piercing gaze gave me shivers and I shrieked back on my spot. The sound of the footsteps started to move farther away from me.

Next morning when I got up in the chairs arranged outside the room, with a big coat covering me smelling like Dario, where I fell asleep last night. I heard the whispers coming from inside the room. After listening to it carefully I knew one of the two sounds. It was Dario the other I was not too sure. I got up from my spot and scooted near the door.

"...I will kill them for doing this to my mate." Dario said his voice full of vengeance and furry.

"You have to calm down and think about the consequences. If you act rashly, they can do something more." The other voice spoke.

"What did Enzo do wrong. Just because he is a male omega, he is treated this way. He is my mate; my everything how am I supposed to live without him...... they did not even think before injecting him with wolf's bane. And it was enough to kill his wolf." Dario's voice broke and he could not take it as he started sobbing.

"You need to let him go Dario. He will only suffer if you make him stay like this."

"I... I cannot do that. How should I part ways with him. Doctor even said he was carrying my pups. They killed them too." He cried even louder this time. Gio was so shocked. He knew the person who killed his nieces or nephew is his father and mother but for what reason. He stood there with tears streaming his face.

After a week Dario challenged the emperor for a death fight. He already lost his mate and his pups nothing was left for him in this world. It has already been a week since Enzo died.

It was a very intense fight. Dario could have won but the emperor used dirty trick to save his life. Even when it meant to kill his own son. The fight was only a wolf fight. Both the sides were allowed to be in their wolf form when fighting. No weapons or interference was allowed.

Dario was strongest fighter among all. And when he has to take revenge for his mate, he was even more terrifying. He even at a point started to toy with the emperor to make him see who is strongest. Everyone knew at this point that Dario is going to win. They all cheered getting Dario's attention for a split second. The emperor took advantage of it. He ran towards the boundary transforming into his human form and took the spear which was in the hands of a statue. He turned as Dario was right on him, piercing the spear in his neck resulting in quick death.

Dario lay dead on the ground and then he circled him as if he won fair and square. No one could disobey the emperor and hence no one questioned his bending of rules. People were shocked and could not move for a while but then they have to acknowledge the victory of the ruler. They all cheered and clapped for him.

I stood frozen looking at the corpse of my brother. His eyes looking directly at me. It did not seem like he was in pain. It felt like he found his peace he seemed happy to be dead. I was sure he could have dodged it, but he did not. He wanted to die in this match.

On the same morning, Dario came to let his brother know, that he will fight the emperor and whatever the result is he should be strong to accept it and move forward, be a much stronger warrior than he himself is and save this country. He also left a box for him saying he should only open it when he is gone. If Gio feels he might not be able to meet his brother again then only he should open the box. Even though Gio knew he could not meet his brother now, but he still could not open that box until much later.

While growing up he got to know what actually happened that day. The emperor and the empress were not happy with a male omega to be a part of the royal family that to be the next empress. They wanted Dario to keep his mate but marry someone else for the title. But Dario rejected. Hence, they accepted Enzo as his mate because otherwise Dario refused to come back home. Once they both returned, the emperor planned to kill Enzo. As Enzo was also a warrior.

They first separated them both so it would be easy to make their plan work. The empress took Enzo to her suit and drugged him with a drink. The emperor did the same and locked Dario in the emperor's room. They then took Enzo to the east wing and injected him with wolf's bane 3 times. Which is more than enough to kill someone's wolf.

The emperor even made Enzo naked to see if he was marked anywhere. He even let other Alphas examine him. They rapped him one by one, Enzo could not fight back because of the wolf's bane, he got much weaker. In the end he could not take it and lost consciousness and then later he was beaten and was dumped into the east annex.

All this because Enzo was a male omega and that too a warrior he was not from a wealthy family. When Gio got to know all of this then he opened that box and looked for the subject inside it. It was a wooden ring and a picture of Enzo in it. There was a note in it.

'I know you will keep better care for this. I am very sorry I could not stay with you longer, but my family needs me I need them. So, I will be going first. Be a strong warrior and a great ruler, I know you can do this.

Gio cried looking at that letter and then keep the things safe with him. He took it as an heirloom that needs to be protected and preserved for as long as possible. He worked hard to be someone worthy of replacing his brother. But a fear was still in him that what if his mate is a male and he is unable to save him either. He wouldn't want his mate to end up like that. He wants his mate to be there with him, he wants to start a family with him and all in all love him like his brother loved Enzo.

Since the day he got to know about the truth, he refused to call his biological parents as mother and father. He resented them for what they did. He wanted a revenge, but he didn't know how to take it. So, he waited for a long time until he had his own special army who will only follow his orders. He had his friend Blake with him for that. They had planned for an attack after he gains the thrown and then kill both his father and mother for the treason they committed.

But when everything was going smoothly, he found his mate. His omega, he could not risk his mate now. He had to be cautious. He was about to discuss the plan for the attack with Blake that day but now how can he when his mate is already here.

Whatever may happen, his priority is to keep his mate safe. And no matter what he will do that. He will do anything and everything to take his brother's revenge and save his mate. That was very clear in Gio's mind.
