The wedding of the Alpha King had drawn wolves from every corner of the land. The palace grounds shimmered with golden lanterns, music drifting through the open-air ballroom, laughter echoing beneath the stars. But Vincenzo Moretti, ever the quiet shadow behind the throne, lingered near a column in silence.
He didn't belong in the light. Not like his brother.
But the moment his eyes landed on the quiet boy by the edge of the fountain, something inside him shifted.
The omega stood still, awkwardly adjusting the hem of his tunic. Pale silk clung to his slender frame, his cheeks flushed from the warm night air—or maybe nerves. He had wide eyes, soft features, and a tension in his shoulders that betrayed just how out of place he felt.
And yet, Vincenzo couldn't look away.
Kayle Aldren.
Levi's childhood friend from another pack in the East. He had arrived just a day before, quiet and hesitant, keeping to the side during all the pre-wedding festivities. He hadn't spoken much—certainly not to any of the palace Alphas—and he hadn't once looked Vincenzo's way.
Until now.
Their eyes met across the courtyard, and something stirred in both their chests.
Kayle had never seen Vincenzo before—but the moment their eyes locked, his heart stuttered. His wolf stirred with curiosity instead of fear. He didn't understand it, but he didn't want to look away.
Vincenzo noticed. And over the course of the evening, he found quiet ways to approach—offering Kayle a drink, standing beside him in the gardens without speaking, watching the stars together from the balcony.
He didn't push.
Kayle didn't run.
They spoke. About music. About their families. About silence and comfort. Slowly, a bond formed—not the fated one their wolves hinted at—but a quiet, patient connection built on mutual trust.
After the wedding, Kayle had to return to his home pack.
Vincenzo let him go.
But only for a short while.
Two weeks later, Kayle stood at the entrance of his house, stunned, as a familiar tall figure was standing few steps away from him.
"Vincenzo?" Kayle blinked, thinking it as a dream.
"I said I'd come visit," Vincenzo said softly. "And I meant it."
Kayle stared for a moment longer before stepping forward. "But you're the Alpha King's brother. Don't you have duties?"
"I do. But none more important than this."
Kayle's cheeks flushed. "You came all this way... just for me?"
"Always for you."
From that day on, Vincenzo became a quiet but steady presence in Kayle's life. He visited as often as he could—sometimes under official pretense, sometimes simply because he couldn't bear the distance. And each visit brought them closer.
Their first real date was simple. A walk by the riverbank that stretched along the edge of Kayle's village.
The sky was overcast, the breeze gentle. The water babbled softly alongside them.
"I used to come here when I felt overwhelmed," Kayle said, skimming a stone across the surface. "Middle school was hard. There was this group of boys—"
He paused, then looked over at Vincenzo, who waited patiently, eyes warm urging him to continue.
"They used to call me names, shove me into lockers. I was small. Soft. They hated that I was different. I don't think I ever felt safe back then. Except when I was with Levi or my older brothers. They protected me."
