"Hey, why do you like Martin anyway? He's an idiot!" I asked Julie in a very serious tone, or at least I hope it was.

"Well... let's just say he's nicer than he seems...He doesn't act like he thinks". She said it so calmly, and didn't seem mad at all...

Now I was even more certain that Julie was depressed, normally she would just yell "He's not bad at all you fucker!", but this? And now I was curious, why would anyone pretend to be who they weren't? Then I remembered myself... But I had a question to ask.

"Why would he pretend to be an as- I mean why would he pretend to be cruel? Why does he not act like he thinks?"

"Because he's scared people will be mean to him for being nice".

"Why would anyone be mean to him for that? And why does someone like him care?".

"Stop fucking asking why! I don't want to talk about this anymore! I'm about to see Martin for the first time in a long time, don't ruin this with your petty questions!" Julie suddenly hurled at me. For a second I was stunned, even I wasn't expecting that...

Julie... please admit that you're hurting, I can't bear to see you like this... All our brains are hurting us more than the zombies...

After saying that, Julie's expression changed from angry to surprised, like she had just realised what she just said. It was quite clear she said more than she meant to.

"Hey, I'm sorry, I'm really not myself today...".

"Hey, it's fine, you're going through a lot...".

We were siblings that loved bickering, but we still cared about each other.

"Woah, sounds like a lot of drama goin' on over here!". Shelly pointed out. I didn't even realise she was listening! Sneaky bitch!

"Tell me about it!" Julie replied.

"I'm sorry you have to listen to all our drama". I told them.

"No! It's fine, I actually really like drama! Even my own crazily enough, I won't go out of my way to cause a fuss, but it is fun to watch!" She explained. Shelly is weird, but that's fine I guess. A little bit... I don't know what the word is, but something didn't feel right about her liking drama though. "Romantic drama is just the best!" Shelly followed up with.

"It's fine, really, I have my own drama too, I used to fight with my brother all the time before the zombies got to him!" Shaun said. At first he laughed, but then he started sulking. I didn't know he had a brother! He must have remembered him getting attacked, and it made him sad. I felt bad for him, but I couldn't really give him a hug or anything, we didn't know each other well enough for that.

Eventually, Julie knocked on the door and I saw Martin peep through the blinds on the window. He looked terrible! The apocalypse clearly affected him harshly! There were bags under his eyes, his hair was messy and his clothes were stained and dirty. When he looked through, he was snarling and looked angry, but when he saw it was us, his face lightened up and he opened the door.

"Hi! I'm so glad you're here! I was lonely without my little cupcake!".

Then they started snogging each other... eww, get a room please!

When they were finally done, we introduced Shelly and Shaun. He seemed bored, or disappointed, but after hearing what Julie said, I wondered if that was the truth or not. He was still annoying though.

"How are things?" Julie asked.

"Honestly, not great, I have no food, but I'm too scared to leave, I'd rather starve than leave here... I've barely slept too, I've tried to clean to calm down, but I can't keep up. it's stressing me out more than calming me down... Also, my mother died...".

"Your mother died!?" Julie replied.

"Yes... good riddance...".

That comment made a shiver go down my spine... his voice was so dark... so bitter... What did his mother do? Clearly she was worse than my mother if he hated her that much. There was no way it was acting, his voice was too dark for that...

Seriously, what happened to this dude? Is his mother why he's mean? What did she do? I had a feeling I shouldn't ask.
