"NOOOOOOO!" Shelly screamed in desperation. At the scene of her best friend's death... The despair she must've been feeling is unimaginable...
I could hardly move... how awful...
"GET OFF OF HIM YOU BASTARD BITCHES!".
Shelly tried to run back to save him, but I could tell it was too late... he was gone...
I grabbed her wrist and forced her to run with me. I didn't know what I was doing, but I just wanted to get out of there... alive... with as many of us alive as possible...
I could hardly breathe... my asthma was acting up, no matter, I had my inhaler. It was running out, but I'm sure I could get a refill at some random pharmacy or something.
Eventually, after an eternity of running, we were far enough away, and we stopped to catch our breath. I knew it... I felt like it was going to happen, it was in my gut, but despite feeling something there was nothing I could do... dammit...
That experience made me realise something... death is real. And it can and will happen to anyone and everyone. It will happen to me too... and you can never tell when it will happen, or how awful it would be... Shaun didn't know today would be his last day alive, and he didn't know that it would be so... gruesome...
I looked over to Shelly, her dejected eyes spoke volumes, I could see her pain in her face. Seeing such a usually happy person so sad was the saddest thing ever... I'm sure that anyone would feel depressed looking at that.
"Hey, Shelly... I can't even imagine what it must be like losing your best friend, but... we're here, we're here for you, and we're willing to help. I'm sure he's looking down at us right now..." I told her, trying to be reassuring. I wasn't sure if I was saying the correct thing, but I hoped I was able to help.
She looked at me and gave me a sad smile.
"Nah, I'm sure that son of a bitch is looking up at us..." She said, even though she was hurting so badly, she still cracked a silly joke, even if it was a dark one... "Damn it... we we're two peas in a pod... but now I'm just a lonely pea with no buddy...".
