I'M CURRENTLY RAPPING TO EMINEM as I drive down to the beach. Hurricane Agatha is about to hit and I'm gonna go surf the surge. Doing risky things is practically a hobby of mine, and surfing during storms just so happens to be considered risky.
For some reason, I'm always doing something dangerous. Every time I hear about something that is threatening, I immediately do it. I love the adrenaline rush, the energy, the feeling.
It's just who I am.
As I pull up to a beach on the cut, I see John B and Pope running down to the shore. They are Kiara's friends, (my not-much-older twin sister) and they're pogues, who I think are pretty nice.
Although my sister is technically a kook, she slums around with them. My parents aren't huge fans of my sister's friends, but Kie doesn't care. To be honest, I admire her for not caring.
Anyway, you're probably wondering what a 'pogue' and a 'kook' are, so let me give you brief explanation.
A 'pogue' is someone who lives on the south side or 'The Cut' as many people like to call it. A lot of the time you can see them surfing, busting tables, or cleaning up yachts. If I'm stating my opinion, which nobody asked for, I think the pogues get treated the worst out of all of the people on the island.
Unfortunately, my friends' are some of the people that treat them bad. They act as if the pogues are lower than us just because of their money and social status, not to mention the stereotypical nicknames they're called.
Anyway, a 'kook' is someone who lives on the north side, which is also known as 'figure eight'. That's where me and my twin sister live. Kooks are the people who are rich, flash their money at fancy events, and are overall not good people. As much as people call me and my sister kooks, we don't like the name.
I try my best to chance the topic when my social status is brought up, mainly because it's a unnecessary topic to talk about, but also because I'd rather forget that I'm associated with the jerkiest people in the entire Outerbanks.
As I mentioned before, Kiara hangs around with the pogues, and I can't say I blame her. Pogues always do whatever they want, whenever they want. I wish I could do that. Well, I do, I just get in loads of trouble by my parents.
Unfortunately, because of mine and my sister's opposite social circles', we aren't very close. Sure, we surf and watch movies together sometimes, but other than that, we barely talk.
I'd say the time me and my sister were the closest was when we were in the ninth grade. I mean, we were definitely close when we were little, but if we were to scratch that, ninth grade was probably the most we had ever hung out.
After the incident we had in ninth grade with a certain kook girl, whom shall not be named, we drifted apart and went back to our dubbed friend groups.
Anyways, I'm now in the ocean as I wait for a wave. My eyes are narrowed as I scan the water for any appealing waves. A huge storm is about to happen, so there's bound to be a decent wave at some point.
Suddenly, a huge wave curls in the distance, the rain from the stormy clouds pelting down onto my body as I lay my stomach against my board.
My veins course with enthrallment as I begin paddling my arms as fast as I can, practically giving myself an arm cramp because of my quick and urgent paste.
Once I arrive at the wave, I push my body up, planting my feet firmly on my newly waxed board. I bend my knees as my board starts to ride down the wave.
