Christine stands completely still, wondering if it is truly her Angel of Music. "Angel?" she hesitantly asks. Erik walks towards her and silently thinks to himself saying, 'She looks more beautiful than the last time I saw her.' Christine hardly moves an inch because she still doesn't know whether or not to believe that he is actually standing in front of her. "Is it really you?" she asks. "Yes. It's me. Your Angel of Music," Erik replies. Christine smiles, takes a few steps towards him and says, "You came back?"
"Yes. I have," Erik replies. "Why?" Christine asks with curiousity. "I wasn't quiet feeling well, so I decided to come back until I feel better. Besides I need to see how long the Opera House will be under construction," Erik replies. Even though he knows that he did not return for that exact reason. "Well from what Raoul has told me, it will take at least five or six years to repair and restore it to its former glory," she says with a smile on her face as she looks down. "I wish it wasn't that long. But I guess since I...since the fire, I knew that it would take a few years to be restored," he acknowledges as he knows that he's the one that caused the fire to the opera house. "Yes, it will. And hopefully I will be able to sing on the stage again. I really liked singing on that stage," she says with a look of uncertainty on her face.
"What are you talking about?" Erik responds. He takes her hands and says, "Of course you will. I can't imagine why you would not be able to perform again." In the back of his mind he thinks, 'Unless Raoul changes his mind, which I hope not.' Christine looks down, then back up and replies, "Actually...um...Angel, something has happened and I don't know if I should say it, let alone how to say it," she says with a nervous tone in her voice. "Then don't. Let's not talk about it now. Let's just enjoy each other's company," he replies, however, in the back of his mind he knows what it is that she is wanting to talk about. Christine nods her head in agreement. "You're right. Let's not think about it. Let's just enjoy the time that we have together," she says.
Christine makes a gesture to Erik to sit down on the couch. As they make their way to the couch, Erik sighs and says, "Oh Christine. I've missed you," he sighs. "So have I," she says also with sigh. "All I thought about while I traveling was you. Because I...I...," Erik hesitantly says as he wants to tell her what he truly wants to say but doesn't know whether or not to say it. Christine notices that Erik cannot say what he wants to say. She leans in and says, "Because you what?" He smiles and says, "I'll...I'll explain it another time. I promise. I would tell you now it's just...I arrived back this morning and I'm vey tired." Christine puts her hand on top of his and says, "Well then maybe you should get some rest." Erik stands up and says, "Yes. You're right. I should. But I'd thought I should..." He stops as he is can't stop gazing how beautiful Christine is. Christine notices that once again he can't finish his sentence. "You thought that you what?" She says as she stands up with a concerned tone in her voice. Erik looks at her and looks deep into her eyes. "To see if you were alright," he said. Christine is shocked but not surprised that her Angel of Music was thinking about her. "To see if God was watching over you while I was away." Erik touches her face, longing to kiss her but stops himself from doing so. "But I can see that he has, and I am thankful that he has answered my prayers," he says.
Suddenly there's a knock on the door. Christine turns as a servant says, "Excuse me, Miss Daae. But it is time for bed." Christine turns back to her Angel of Music. Erik smiles and says, "You should probably go." Christine takes his hand, knowing that she does not want him to leave. "Oh no! Angel, please!" Erik puts his hand on her chin and says, "Christine please." They look deep into each other's eyes. "Don't worry, I will see you again. Tomorrow night if you wish," Erik implies. "Promise?" She asks. Erik leans in closer and whispers, "I promise. I promise I will see you again tomorrow night. In your room. Ten o'clock. Do you trust me Christine?" She looks deep into his eyes and also whispers, "With all of my heart, yes." Erik smiles.
"And now I must tell you...I must tell you..." Erik hesitates as he knows that he wants to kiss her, but let's go of her hand and says, "Goodnight Christine." He slowly walks away. As he does, Christine smiles and says, "Goodbye...my Angel of Music."
Later that, Erik is pacing around his room once more, thinking about what had happened when he saw Christine again. "Oh Christine. If only I could have told you why I came back. If only I could have told you how I feel. To tell you how I feel about you. How I feel when I see you. And when I'm with you," he pauses as he knows how much he cares for her. He looks at all of the drawings in his room. "How much my heart aches for you to be with me instead of that distainful youth. For you deserve a better man than him. I would be with you every minute of the day when you want me to be with you. And I would love you until the day we die," he confesses. Erik looks at the rose, placed gently on his desk and holds it in his hand. He looks down and feels sad about everything that they've endured. "Oh, Christine. I could not tell you because how you looked at me. I couldn't tell you because I'm still afraid of what you may think. What you would say," he sighs. He closes his eyes and says, "No, my darling Christine. You deserve a better life than to live with someone like me. Besides even if you told me you me you loved me and married me, where we would we live? This is not a place for children to grow up in. Plus I'm afraid that even if we did have children, that they would probably end up like me. A monster"
Erik sits down, puts the rose next to him down and says, "Oh my darling Christine. Even though I wouldn't do anything to hurt you...I know that I will always watch over you and...I love you. And I always will."
