Chapter 51

That following day, Erik wakes up to the birds chirping. He turns and kisses Christine's cheek. She moves and groans as she turns to face him. "Good morning, Christine," whispers Erik.

"Good morning," Christine replies.

"How did you sleep?

"Alright. The baby was moving a lot last night—frankly, a lot more than usual." Christine moves slightly as she gently rubs her pregnant belly.

Erik notices the look on her face and worries that something is wrong. "Are you ok?" he asks.

"Yes," she answers. "The baby probably is uncomfortable or something."

"Are you sure?"

"I'm sure."

"Alright." Erik leans over and kisses Christine softly on the lips.

"Erik, darling, I'm a little thirsty. Could you please bring me some tea?

"Sure, do you want anything to eat?"

"No, thank you. I'm not hungry."

"Alright. I'll be right back." Erik leans over to Christine's forehead and kisses it. He then gets up to put on some clothes and heads to the kitchen. Once Erik leaves, Christine gets out of bed and puts on her robe.

A few minutes later, Gabriel notices Raoul bursting into the mansion and walking toward him. "Raoul," Gabriel gasps.

"Where is she?" demands Raoul.

"Who?"

"You damn well know who I am talking about."

At the top of the stairs, Eliza and Charlotte notice Raoul arguing with Gabriel. They are shocked and terrified. "I've got to warn Christine and Erik," Eliza whispers.

"I'm coming with you," implies Charlotte. They both run toward Christine's room.

"I'm sorry, Raoul, but she does not want to see you," answers Gabriel as he crosses his arms.

"I did not ask if she wanted to see me," says Raoul with anger in his eyes. He takes another step toward Gabriel and glares at him. "I will see her right now!"

"You will not! I'm going to need you to leave! Now!"

Raoul stares at Gabriel.

Charlotte opens the door, allowing Eliza and herself to get in, and quickly shuts the door. Christine looks at Eliza and Charlotte and notices that something is wrong. Charlotte walks over to Christine and says, "Christine! Raoul is here! We need you and Erik to leave right now!"

Christine's heart sinks as she realizes her worst fear. Eliza takes a step toward them and says, "He must have followed me or somehow read one of Emily's or Meg's letters or something."

Without looking at either Charlotte or Eliza, Christine looks down at her vanity desk and says, "It doesn't matter." She turns to look at Charlotte and Eliza. "Charlotte, warn Erik. Eliza, help me pack."

Charlotte nods and quickly runs out of the room. Eliza grabs an empty bag and helps Christine pack as much as she can.

"I'm not going to say this again. Leave!" commands Gabriel.

"I'm not going anywhere!" Raoul snaps. "Now, step aside!"

Gabriel moves Raoul's arm up in a particular position, but Raoul counter-attacks him and pushes Gabriel down the stairs. Gabriel tosses down the stairs and lands at the bottom of the steps. Raoul waits a few seconds to see that Gabriel is unconscious before he heads to the bedrooms to look for Christine.
