Chapter 26

A few hours later, everyone is having a great time at the wedding reception; dancing, playing games, and laughing the night away. Charlotte is dancing with a guest when she catches from the corner of her eye, her father smiling at her, expressing how happy he is for her. As she continues to dance, she also catches from the corner of the room, Erik and Christine talking and having a good time. She looks at Alex and signals with her eyes to go to Erik and Christine. As she signals Alex, she excuses herself from the dance.

As Alex and Charlotte walk towards them, they notice Erik making Christine laugh. Suddenly Erik and Christine notice Alex and Charlotte a few feet away from them. Christine leans in and hugs Charlotte and Alex. "Charlotte, Alex. Congratulations. I am so happy for you both," said Christine.

"Thank you, Christine," replied Alex as he smiles and nods at her. He then turns to Erik, leans towards him and shakes his hand. "Ah, Erik. It's good to finally meet you."

"Congratulations to the both of you," replied Erik. Charlotte smiles, and in her mind, she is intrigued by Erik's personality. Christine also smiles as she is pleased that he has finally met her family and without being judged. "Christine, how have you been?" asked Alex.

"Great, thank you," Christine replied.

"Are you both enjoying the reception?"

"Yes, we are, and the wedding was just absolutely beautiful," states Christine.

"Thank you," replied Charlotte.

"Oh, darling. My parents are walking towards us," whispers Alex as he notices from the corner of his eye. Charlotte looks in the same direction and sees his parents. "Well, we will talk soon right?" implies Charlotte.

"Of course. Love you," said Christine.

"Love you," replied Charlotte. They kiss each other on the cheek. Alex takes Charlotte's hand then they leave to talk to his parents.

As they leave, Christine and Erik turn back to each other and smile. "She sounds very nice," implies Erik.

"She is," states Christine.

They smile and look away for a moment.

"Do you want to get a snack?" Erik asks.

"Absolutely. A glass of wine sounds good too," replies Christine as she takes his hand and they walk to the buffet table.

A few minutes later, Charlotte and Alex observe from the other side of the room, Christine and Erik's behavior towards each other. "They're so cute together," said Charlotte.

"Yes. They look really happy together," said Alex. Charlotte glances at Alex then back at Christine and Erik. She leans over to Alex and whispers, "I hope they confess their love to one another tonight." Alex looks at Charlotte, confused about what she is implying and planning.

One hour later, guests are continuing to enjoy themselves. Some are dancing; some are laughing and joking with one another. As Charlotte is walking around and smiling towards her guests, she notices Erik and decides to walk towards him.

"Hello Mr. Erik Destler," said Charlotte. Erik turns to his side as Charlotte stands by him and grabs an entrée from the table next to him. "Hello Charlotte, but please, you can just call me Erik."

"Alright," she replied. Erik smiles then looks to the floor. Charlotte notices a server coming by, offering them a glass of wine. She smiles and grabs a glass from him. The server then leaves them. Charlotte smiles at Erik as he looks back up then says, "So Erik, there's been something I've wanted to ask you."

"Ask away," replies Erik.

Charlotte takes a sip of her drink then asks, "Have you ever told my cousin that you love her? My father and Madame Giry told me all about you and the past between you and my cousin."
