Zola
Standing next to me was Sophia Walker. Miss Popular from high school.
I didn't like her then and I still don't.
I thought she moved to New York or something.
"Hey, Sophia. How've you been?" Nathan asked her while hugging her.
"I've been good. Just came down for the holidays".
"Same. My parents are selling the house so I'm helping them pack it up".
"Oh wow. That's cool. It's been a long time".
"It has. What do you do for work now?".
"I'm a fashion designer so I make designs for my company that I work for in New York. How about you? Did you go pro for football?".
"Nah. I retired after college and I'm the Vice President of the Marketing Department for the company I work for".
"Oh, that's pretty cool".
"Not when they make you work during the holidays".
"Literally it's a nightmare".
It's like I don't even exist. I just decided to walk away and get my cookies because I couldn't care for that pointless conversation.
I came back and they were still talking.
I sat down on the bench and Nathan said," Oh yeah. You remember Zola from our class"."Yeah. I do. Wow. It's been such a long time. You got your braces off as well".
I just nodded.
"Well it's been great seeing you," Sophia said and she hugged Nathan before leaving.
Nathan then sat back down on the bench and said," Wow. What are the odds".
I mocked Sophia's voice and said," I know right".
"Oh come on. Don't tell me your jealous".
I chuckled and said," Jealous of Miss Preppy over there. Not in the slightest".
I then took a bite of my cookie.
"Wow! You are jealous. Come on Bello. Don't feel threatened," Nathan said taking a piece of my cookie.
"Hey! And threatened of what? She can have you".
"Jealousy looks good on you".
"I am not jealous. Why should I? You can go crawling back to your ex and I won't give a damn".
"I mean it's possible. The only reason why we broke up was because we went to two different colleges 3 hours from each other. Even when she transferred, things were just never the same but the idea is tempting".
"Well tempt away," I said getting up and walking to the car.
I'm not jealous of Sophia. I don't see Nathan in that way.
So then why did it hurt?
Two minutes later, Nathan showed up.
"Jesus, you walk too fast".
"And you walk too slow. Are the others coming. I'm tired".
"I'll go check to see".
Nathan walked back to get the others while I stayed behind.
I just wanna go home and sleep to forget about tonight.
Nathan then came back with the others. My dad unlocked the car and I was about to get in when Nathan said," Hey do you have your phone on you?".
