Author's Note: This chapter is just going to be about Yeonjun's backstory leading all the way up to the ending in the last chapter. If you don't want to read it, feel free to just skip to the next chapter.
The moment the fragile, little baby entered the world, his mother cried onto him and whispered into his ear, "I'm so sorry baby. I'm so sorry. You don't deserve this life."
The baby opened his eyes for the first time, only to see the white ceiling of the hospital ward. There was no one there. No one was next to him, no one was talking to him, hell no one was even looking at him. He was just... there.
Desperate for something to satisfy his growing hunger, the baby cried out, his lonely cries echoing throughout the hospital room. The baby's cries weren't heard by anyone and soon, his cries were subdued by the emergency alarm ringing.
"Code Blue! Code Blue!" a nurse yelled, running into the nearby room where his mother had laid, many other doctors and nurses following behind closely.
"What's going on?" the head doctor spoke, putting on his mask and gloves.
"Postpartum hemorrhage. She just gave birth. The baby's safe, but we need to do something for her," the other doctor replied, getting some gauze to try and pack the uterus with it.
Meanwhile in the other room, the commotion was too much for the little baby. His ears had started to hurt and his stomach hurt from how he was starving. His cries kept getting louder and louder, but to no avail. No one had heard him. It was only a matter of time before he had to give up.
Finally there was silence. His cries were heard and a midwife ran into the room with a little milk bottle, placing it into his mouth. The baby's cries stopped as he closed his eyes and sucked on the tip of the baby bottle, his hunger slowly disappearing.
"Time of death?" a doctor spoke loudly in the other room.
"5:36am," the nurse replied.
A loud, heartbreaking scream was let out by an older man, "No! Not my wife! She can't be dead! She can't do this to me!"
The doctors and nurses all surrounded the man, some of them trying to help him up, but to no use. The man's heart had broke at the sight of his dead wife on the stretcher. But what broke him even more was the thought of trying to raise his only son by himself.
After a few minutes, the man entered the room and walked towards the baby. "Yeonjun... it's you and me now. Your mother's gone..." he sobbed, looking at the baby who was innocently looking into his eyes.
Five years later, Yeonjun sat with his father who was looking for private schools. Yeonjun sat quietly next to his father, wondering thoughts that no five year old should have thought about. He wondered if his father had blamed him for his mother's death. He wondered if his father had truly liked him. Sure, they talked, but it was... awkward between them. It wasn't like a normal conversation you would have with your father, it was more of a conversation between your teacher or a mentor.
"How about this one?" Joowon asked Yeonjun, pointing at the school through the laptop.
Eager to please his father, Yeonjun nodded, hoping that this would at least help them have a normal father-son connection. Joowon nodded in response and ruffled Yeonjun's hair, "Good choice."
Yeonjun smiled at the motion. His father had never done that to him before, so this probably meant that they were starting a bond. From that day on, Yeonjun was determined to please his father. He wanted his father to love him and be proud of him, so he followed his father's every command.
"Seoul National University is a prestigious university. You better not get into trouble Yeonjun. I know my son is going to be a great doctor," Joowon spoke to a now, 19 year old Yeonjun.
