I was a woman who once seemed ordinary. But from day to day, everything changed. Her normal life became extraordinary, but not in the way he wanted. Even small changes in everyday life blur the line between life and death, on the borderline of the fate of a woman with a mysterious past, a desperate present, and an unclear future. The balance of my personality and the world was disturbed. I didn't know yet, but I vowed to discover what happened. I swore that I would find out who did this to me. I saw all my ghosts from the past, all the bad memories that will never be erased from my memory. Death repeatedly flowed through my veins, arteries, nerves, skin, and bones. I feared death more than anything else. She terrified me. It made my heart beat like a bell, and goosebumps ran over my body. She made me feel like nothing else. I was freezing on the surface and burning inside at the same time. It was indescribable, incomprehensible, charming, and terrifying simultaneously. It took my breath away.
9:56 a.m.
After a terrible agony and shock, I woke up. I had no idea where. I was probably in the hospital or still on that roof.
My head hurt, and I could taste blood in my mouth. I opened my eyes. A bright white light shone through, blinding me for a moment. First, it shone in my left eye and then in my right.
"Pupil reaction is fine—blood pressure 90 to 70. We gave the patient an infusion of fluids and glucose. There is an impact injury on the top of the head. Also, superficial wounds on the face. The CT scan showed no brain damage," said the doctor running past me. I was scared, but at least I knew I was no longer out there but in the hospital.
I closed my eyes and fell into a deep sleep again.
12:50 p.m.
"Christine...where's Christine?"
"Alexis," Christine was startled. "do not worry. He's at my house with Ben. You are in the hospital. You passed out," she stuttered to herself.
"What happened?" I asked, confused. "and who is Ben?"
"My neighbor and university colleague. I told you about him," she replied. "do you remember anything?"
I nodded in agreement. "We were on the roof – at the university. There was a guy there," I swallowed. "he gave me...he gave me a letter from Mom. Where is the letter?" confused.
Christine took a deep breath and then gave me a very guilty look.
"I do not know. I'm sorry, Alexis, but he had to stay there." I sighed sadly.
I grabbed Christine's hands and looked into her eyes as if I had suddenly lost my mind. I was breathing very loudly.
"Christine, listen to me. We need to go to the nearest FBI office—on West Lake Mead Boulevard," I screamed.
She stared at me blankly.
"We have to get in there. We need to find my mom's and Jane Doe Killer's files," I said.
"What?" she asked in surprise.
"Even tonight," I added.
"What? No, no, no. Wait," she stopped me. "What you're saying is impossible and stupid," she protested. "You're completely out of your mind."
"No, Christine. You need to help me understand myself. We have to do this," I urged her.
"Calm down. You're talking morphine. You can't do something like that in this state. You heard the doctors.'
"Will you come with me? You will watch out for me. You're also a doctor, after all," I flattered her.
She took a deep breath, smirking as she did so. "Alexis, I can't... and neither can you."
"You can... we have to! We have to do it. I need to know the answers before I die," I said thoughtfully, but still, her face was worried and uncertain.
