I frowned, eyeing the sales hall, shivering in the cold air, the air conditioning is on, it must be hot outside, but I'm freezing in here. A long line of pets being shown off, from dogs to humans, I was used to being looked over, I'm not as cute and smiley as the other humans. I'm not eager like a dog, or talkative like a cat. I'm quite shy around strangers and I know the salespeople explain it to buyers, but buyers want the more eager pets.

I came from a stingy pet store, it was loud and stinky and humans fought each other over food, over attention, because the owners of the pet store didn't really put any care into selling us. They just wanted the money. When I came to this place a few months ago, when that place was shut down and we were rescued, I was apparently too shy.

Vampires like happy, eager pets, they apparently adore being made to feel important and special. A pet that adores them and gives them all the good attention is much more desired.

I frowned and shuffled, looking up at the handler holding the leash, I wore a harness and dress, the same dress the other humans wear. Boys and girls eagerly bouncing in their dresses and greeting the owners. I didn't stand out.

Noticing me watching, the handler smiled, she's nice, she's a friendly vampire, not like the one handler at the old pet shop, where that handler would yell and slap us away, she wasn't very nice.

She patted my head, stroking her fingers through my hair, my hair used to be greasy and filled with dirt and other things, it's nice with it soft and washed. I leant into her pat and leant against her side.

"You're a good girl, maybe this time someone will sweep you up" she mumbled, I snuggled my head against her, liking it as she kneaded my back. Someone tall moved closer, I glanced up and inched behind her. A tall man, with pronounced fangs being shown. He examined me.

"Don't mind her shyness, she's an amazing girl, she's very obedient and given enough time, she's very affectionate" explained the handler. Giggling as I tried to hide behind her. I was slowly pulled forward, staring into his firm grey eyes, his brown hair fluffy. I sniffled. He smiled slightly, keeping his grip on my harness, with his other hand, he held out a piece of chocolate, I slowly took it and began to eat.

"We generally don't allow people to feed the pets anything, but I'll allow it this once" the handler spoke. The man stroked my cheek and touched the stiff plastic collar. He was crouched in front of me smiling.

"I love her" he mumbled, chuckling to himself and standing up to full height. He examined the handler.

"May I see her papers?" He asked I chewed on the piece of chocolate as the handler handed over some papers.

"The price is a bit lower than the rest, why is that?" He asked, rubbing behind my ear and my scalp.

"The easier-to-sell ones, are priced higher, she is at proper market value" explained the handler.

"I see, it says here she's a rescue, from what?" He asked.

"She was from a bad situation, where a pet store was funding a few local human mills by selling those ones, she has no medical defects and is in perfect health. No behaviour issues that we've seen, just a little shyer from the harsh circumstances that they had her in" explained the handler. I looked up at her she was glancing at the starter kit that will be sold along with me.

"I would like to adopt her then. She's perfect" he said. She smiled happily and picked up the starter kit.

"Here, this is the starter kit, it has treats, bowls, a blanket, a sample of the food we feed them here and some toys" she exclaimed, he took the leash and basket as she practically skipped the registration zone. I was released into a pen, drinking some water and sitting, resting my legs on a fluffy pet bed as he had to sign all the documents and give all his details and proof of identity. Then was the scary part, the vet knelt beside me, gently stroking me and removing the plastic collar.

"It will hurt dear, it'll be ok" he hummed softly. There was a sharp pain in the back of my neck, I gasped and clung to him. He patched up the area and stroked my back, waving the chip reader which beeped. He smiled and handed me a treat, my owner walking in.

He crouched and attached my leash.

"You ready?" He murmured, I nodded and smiled. I finally have a home.
