A while ago, I learnt that death wasn't as easy to understand. That people can die from the smallest things. Sometimes the brain just stops and they're dead. From a small prick to high emotions. Pain itself can kill. I wish I didn't know these things. But I had to learn the hard way, humanity burning to the ground as terrified screams echoed down the streets.

I sat, without feeling and without much desire to move. The concrete warm beneath from the recent fires. We couldn't question what exactly was destroying us. Any who saw has wound up missing or dead. I examined the damaged buildings, dying out fires crackling and simmering.

The screams silencing and the world fading as I closed my eyes. Hugging my legs and humming, it was a sad tune, one that I remembered from one of my past favourite songs. It's funny in a way, humming at the end of the world. It's kept me sane for the week. Cars smashed and littering the road. Some house alarm was going off and windows broke as people were desperate to gather supplies.

After having people shove me aside as they looked for canned food, I decided to just wait for a bit. I opened my eyes and stared at the wrecked cars, maybe I should start looking for a place to stay. I've been using the cars as a sleeping spot, whatever they were, didn't seem to be searching the crashed cars.

I was jolted from my thoughtful state as feet began to thunder down the streets, shouts and smashing could be heard as I scrambled to my feet and dove for the cars. I pried open the damaged back seat door and laid out on the seat. Pulling myself into a small ball. I didn't lift my head and rolled between the seats onto the floor, the area cramped and painful to fit in.

Feet could still be heard running as my heart beat sped up. Some people could be heard diving under the taller cars. Something screeched and I shivered in my spot. Steady footsteps could be heard now. I recognised the heavy steps to be the things that had destroyed humanity.

*"Can smell alot here. Everyone split up, check everywhere. In the houses, under the houses, same with the cars. Let's clean up"* something was making strange noises.

I paused, listening closely, I could hear the houses being broken into and.... Was that a car door? I closed my eyes, waiting and waiting as crashing and smashing could be heard, peoples screams or shouts cut short. I gulped and felt the car rock, a door was ripped open, then another. The car dipped slightly before something was dropped on me. I held back a yelp.

I didn't have any room to wriggle away, something tightening around my neck and dragging me out, whatever was covering me kept me unable to see. I staggered to my feet, the thing around my neck keeping the thing over my head. I gasped as I was pulled, resisting and shaking, unable to move from fear.

*"Hurry up. We'll need to get them to the portal. Need to get them home"* came a sound. I jumped in surprise and fell over. Whatever was around my neck, tugged me gradually back to my feet.

I winced and had no other choice. My hands lifting to feel the thing around my neck, it felt like thin metal. It was on over the thing on my head, which felt soft and heavy. My breathing heavy as I grew hot under the strange blanket-like thing. Forced to continue walking, it sounded like a lot of people were walking. Some whimpers and sobs seemed to be made from time to time.

Somebody shouted and screamed, falling silent, I gulped and resisted the thing yanking me, making me stumble. I shook more and more at each new person that screamed. It seemed to get cold real fast. I screamed as I felt some kind of intense pain in my head.

I collapse onto what felt like concrete. Whimpering as I clutched my head. I was dragged along the floor and suddenly on top of something that felt different. Something's tightened around my chest, squeezing my arms to my side and the second squeezed my legs.
