Death wasn't something that struck fear in my heart easily.

Sure I'd love to live every day of my life while I could with the people I love and cherish the most, but there was a cost for my actions.

If I listened to my mom in the first place, me and Alejandro would've never reconnected.

There would be no Tesoro, there would be no Dinah, there would be no bloodshed, there would be no sacrifice.

And yet here we are. Bodies scattered throughout the house, outside the house, probably even out in the yard by now.

But I wasn't scared.

I think I made my peace with life the moment I saw my tía and my pregnant best friend laying in their own blood.

Things may never go back to the way they were and I had to face those facts with my chin held high.

After all, this is my fault.

Alejandro cocked his gun as I was merely a few feet away from him. As I closed my eyes and prepare myself for my final moments, gunshots erupted from the lower level hallway beside us.

I frowned as I heard a herd of footsteps coming our way as a voice hollered out:

"Watch out!"

My eyes flickered to the hallway as I saw three or four guys covered in blood come running full speed towards us. Distracted by the scene, Alejandro took his eyes off of me for one second and I knew that this was my final chance to survive.

Mustering up my last bit of strength and energy, I tackled him with full force. Once he hit the floor, his gun slid across the hardwood floor near the kitchen's threshold.

He cursed at my attempt to blindside him and kneed me in the abdomen, aggravating my previous injury. But there was no time for nursing my pain right now, I had to act fast.

D5 and Rafael came rushing through the hallway, firing at the Mafia members who were fighting to get to the door without getting shot.

One managed to make it out the door without getting hit while another got shot in the back, crawling right beside Javi.

Alejandro snaked his arm around my neck and began choking me out, tightening his grip each time I tried to fight him off.

D5 and Rafael came back inside from chasing the other Mafia members, pointing their guns my way.

"No!" I yelled, "Save Javi!"

"Maya-"

"GO!"

Rafael lifted Javi's body off the floor and carried him out the house as I heard him scream out in agony. Standing his ground, D5 stood at the door, pointing his Glock at us.

I watched as the green beam from his gun flashed across my face, trying to steady it on Tesoro I'm sure. Taking a shot from that distance or any distance in this position was suicide.

Trying to convince him to leave, I shook my head at D5, hoping he understood me.

"Maya let me kill his ass," he spat. "Let me take the shot. I can do it."

"No....." I gasped for air as he continued to choke me out.

"Maya-"

"LEAVE!"

Hesitating, D5 huffed and left out the front door leaving me and Alejandro alone.

"Mhm," he growled in my ear, "your cousin's can't save your ass now."
