"I think this is stupid."

"Well maybe you should've came prepared."

"How the fuck was I supposed to know there's a dinner going on? I thought we were heading to Jamaica and coming back."

"Guess somebody should've read the event schedule Ms. Sasha gave to us two weeks ago."

"Don't bullshit me. I told you I didn't know if I was going to be able to go in the first place."

"What's the deal with that anyways. You got on an ankle monitor or something? I thought you couldn't leave Georgia."

I bit my lip, no one knew about Lauren except Jamila. And even she didn't know the truth about her entirely.

I didn't know if telling people about who she is was the smartest thing so I never opened up about it.

Especially the part where we screwed around. Can't let that get out.

"Uh hello? Earth to Maya. I said how'd you get to come on the trip anyways?"

"I asked my parole officer, she was cool with it."

"Really? You never talk much about her. She must be a bitch." Nia laughed, putting on her perfume and fixing the collard shirt underneath her sweater.

"She isn't.....terrible. I just don't like her that much. But she let me come so I guess that's better than nothing."

"Hey I mean if she's that shitty, maybe your mom or Ms. Sasha could kick her to the curb for you and find a new PO for your case."

I nodded, "Yeah. Maybe."  I slid on my short sleeve button-down over the white tee I was wearing and wiped off a few strings attached to the fabric. "Alright, how does this look on me? I'm not trying on another outfit so this is endgame."

Nia looked at me through the mirror and quickly turned around and grinned. "You look real nice. Almost as nice as me."

"Ayo fuck outta here. I always look good."

"Not when you sleep," she mumbled, "and you're sleeping on the sofa tonight. You kicked the dog shit out of me last night and I'm not about to be your punching bag for the next two days."

"Stop being such a pussy and throw me my cologne would ya."

Apparently there was this big dinner going on tonight. All of the attendees had to be in appropriate attire and I may have forgotten to look at the list to see all of the events going on this weekend.

Regardless, I felt like I was dressed for the occasion. Nice white tee, a black short sleeve button-down, black jeans, and my Forces. I think I did pretty well.

I didn't want my braids to hang long like usual so I threw them into a tight bun. After tossing on my chain and my rings, I was ready for a dinner party.

"Ayo look, I know you said you and Ryan weren't cool anymore so just do me one favor."

"And that is?"

"Don't go in on each other at the nice dinner party," I laughed. "You two can go off the rails just like Adri does and I'm not sure I want to see you get escorted out by security."

"Fuck off," Nia chuckled, "I'm just going to give her time for herself. I'm not going to press the issue while we're here."

"Well good luck with that. If all else fails, I know where the life jackets are."

"Ha-ha, you're not funny."

I adjusted my bun a little before grabbing my phone and keycard from the nightstand.
