"Mom these meatballs are really good, who made them?"

"I think Iris did. She mentioned something about it yesterday in my office, they have a sweet 'n tangy taste to them."

"Right, I like them a lot. She should bring these more often."

"She should." Mom replied while eating another meatball from her plate. I looked around the buffet tables to see what else I may want to add to my plate before going to the desert table.

"Ooo mom, who made the corn salad? It looks.....sketchy."

"Yeah don't eat that. Steve from IT made that and we are not so sure if it's even edible. Apparently Steve dumpster dives from time to time at the local diners."

"Aw, that's so sad."

"Sad? Steve has one of the most expensive homes at this firm and earns the most in his department. He said he doesn't like to cook sometimes so he dives for other cuisine."

I glanced over my shoulder and saw Steve going person to person offering corn salad from a small bowl in his hand, watching everyone deny his offerings.

"Oh."

We continued to look through the rest of the food before finding a empty table to sit at while enjoying the atmosphere of the semi-large meeting room.

Today was our first office party since the summer ended and I was so happy that I could actually attend the event. Interning here was amazing and I hadn't had any issues since I accepted my position.

I won my first case with Thomas last week. Mr. Pryor was found not guilty by the jury and was released from police custody that afternoon. Let's just say the jurors were a sucker for a sorrowful widow.

"Alright alright, hey everyone I want you to gather around. Alright, take your seats please. I have a few announcements to make."

I looked up to see Mr. Ausage take the podium at the front of the meeting room, watching him loosen the tie on his nice navy blue suit.

Almost immediately, everyone found a table to sit down at and reduce the movement in the room to little to none. Mr. Ausage placed a pair of reading glasses on his face as he adjusted some papers on the podium.

"Okay. So first off, I'd like to thank everyone who showed up to our office party. Although this really isn't an office per se, I'm glad that we could all come together and socialize. I'd like to first of all thank everyone who brought a dish and the caterers who prepared the rest of the meals."

A round of applause erupted around the room as the chefs who were near the buffet tables waved to us in solidarity.

"Now, onto more important matters. Our client count has went up exceptionally in the last four months. We've seen an increase in settlements and have received a high honor by the state for being a trustworthy and professional corporation."

Again, another round of applause erupted.

"This wouldn't be possible without each and every one of you. From the janitors to the department leaders to the loyal associates, we've been a well-oiled machine because of your sacrifices and diligence. Thank you. Now, for the true reason I called everyone here on today. As you all know, I'm the CEO and Founding Partner of Sanders and Associates Law Firm. I built this legal corporation straight out of law school and I plan on making this the greatest law firm in the nation."

Applause. Of course. I nodded as he continued his speech explaining how he came to be the CEO of such a large business. His sacrifices and intelligence definitely worked in his favor.
