Finally, I got some "courage" to tell Sissie that she's hidin' somethin' from me. I don't know why but I told her that she knew about what happened that night. "Yes, my dear, I know, but I am protecting you for as long as I am able to. You'll understand at some point." she told me. I ain't like that answer and I told her as such. She told me that she understood but she was still protecting me from something. Sats, what're you protecting me from? I had courage but I also had enough sense to not keep pressin' her, as she'll just go ballistic. It was real ugly when she went ballistic.

Nui wasn't one for talking about that night but, then again, she don't remember anyways, well, not much besides Sis being "purpled". I'm not much older than her and I remember Sis telling us to get our stuff and Mom calling her downstairs to get beat on. We talked with Mako about it and the only thing Mako could draw up is that Sissie's clothes had blood on 'em. "I think she got rid of those after y'all got here." Mako told me, before looking around to see if Sis was somewhere in the house. It was a day that she was out doing things and she never took us out with her, so we had to stay at home.

After a bit, Mako said, "Next time that that Satsuki leaves, we go and see where she went..." Nui told her that Sats was gonna get mad if we did that because Sats specifically told us we can't go anywhere without her. I remember that and I remember that one time with the fireworks, either way, Sats would go ballistic. "Not if we get home before she does." Mako said, kinda mischievous. I don't know how she talked us into that because I was on edge the entire time we left the yard but Nui seemed too happy, with her curious 'bout e'erything.

We followed behind Sissie after she left the house with "Nice Girl". I guess it was somethin' different, as Sissie brought with her a picnic basket. She still wore her makeup and long clothes but she went outside with Nice Girl and they were gonna have a picnic away from the house and other people ('cept us). Mako told us we had to be real quiet, so we could hear what she was up to.

We found out that "Nice Girl" is actually called "Nonon" and they were talking about what happened some years ago. Sissie didn't want to say so much but told Nonon that she was tellin' her "half-truths". I didn't know what a "half-truth" was but I knew it wasn't like a lie. We didn't catch too much of what Sissie said, besides, "It's true, yes, a fire orphaned us but, however, our father died before the fire."

"What happened to your mother?"

"She died a little before the fire started, to my recollections."

"What did she die of?"

"Nonon, if I tell you, you'll know too much. I can't burden you with that. "

"But how about your sisters—"

"PEEKERS."

We didn't stay for long, as we had to hurry home. At that moment, Satsuki sensed someone was watching 'em and she wasn't far from going ballistic again. We managed to get home before Sis did and we acted like nothin' happened. Sis was suspicious, anyways, as she told me, "You both stay in the yard." I don't think she knew that we saw her but she knew she was being watched. When she left the house, after that, I told Mako, "We can't do that again. That was too close a call."
