Chapter 50: Drifting Apart

(A/N: Hey everyone I know it's been a while. This was probably the hardest writer's block I've had in a while. I wanted to update on Valentine's Day but I just didn't have the energy. So to make the time up, I did four chapters this time ^w^. Sorry that there's no art though, I'm sick and tired but I'll make it up to you guys later. Kagami's pov

Today I woke up earlier than usual feeling quite restless. After last night, my brother has been acting rather off.

I frowned as I sat up on my bed staring out the window. He seems so down lately. Something is stressing him out, so why won't he tell me? I shook my head and jumped out of bed with a determined expression. "I'll do everything I can to cheer him up! Starting with a hearty breakfast!"

Quickly getting ready for school, I made my way to the kitchen and started making breakfast. When I finished, I was confused to see that he didn't show up yet. Where is he? He's usually up and about by now.

I went into his room. "Rise and shine, sleepyhead! Your amazing breakfast awaits! Oh?" A small frown replaced my smile as I tilted my head in confusion. He's not here.

My brows furrowed as I left to check his study next. I swear if he's sleeping in here again, he's getting an earful. Fortunately, he wasn't. Unfortunately for me, he was still missing. Thus began the scavenger hunt for my brother.

Bathroom. Not there. Under the couch? Not there either. Coffee table? No, but worth a shot. I went back to my room to look outside my window. He's not in the garden and the shed doesn't look like it was touched recently. I frowned, going back to the living room as I thought about where to look next. If he was going out, then he would've left a note or something.

My eyes widened as a feeling of dread came over me. No, it couldn't be...

Was he kidnapped?! No, no, no, this can't be! What if he ran into a strange man yesterday and he found him attractive?! He always did get mistaken for a girl from behind because of his hair. "Wait, I'll just call him."

That is what I tried to do until I realized my phone was missing. It's not here! I thought I put it in a safe place! My eyes become glossy, feeling the urge to cry. "That was my favorite." My brother bought it for my 14th birthday so we could stay in touch even when he was far away.

I sulked my way back to the living room thinking of where to look for him next. My expression brightens at the sound of the doorknob jiggling. I rushed to the door ready to open it, however, I stopped when my mind thought of other possibilities. What if the kidnapper came back for me? No, I'm too young to get married off to a random foreigner!

The moment the door opened, I went on the offensive. "Take this evil do-gooder!" I shouted as I tackled the culprit to the ground. "Give me back my bro-Oh, it's you! Morning Haku!"

My brother was less than pleased as he stared up at me with an irritated expression. "Kagami, what in God's name are you doing?"

"You didn't come by for breakfast so I went looking for you," I said while sitting on his lap. When he sat up, I noticed a bunch of old junk scattered on the ground. "So, where were you? And what's all this?"

Haku let out a small sigh as he rubbed the back of his neck. For some reason, he seemed quite out of it and that worried me. "I was in the storage room."

"Why?"

"Cleaning," he vaguely said.

"Why?"

His eyebrow twitched as he looked away from me with a deep frown. "I had no work to do so I wanted something to keep myself busy," he explained.
