Chapter 18: Advice and Laughter

~Flashback~

The Village of Wishes. A place where many wanted to find but only a select few had accomplished this goal. Inside the village was lively, filled with bustling villagers and lush vegetation. Overall a great place to live. However, there in the outskirts of the village was a grumpy half-demon stomping away for some solitude.

Chasing behind him was a short priestess he met recently who allowed him to stay with her. "Inuyasha, would you wait up!"

Inuyasha was hung over an incident that occurred much earlier that day and wanted to be away from her. The half-demon stopped and turned to his out-of-breath companion in irritation. "What do you want, I thought you still had duties to attend to?"

Kagami took time to catch her breath before smiling up at her grumpy friend. "I do but I'm taking a quick break!"

"Then why'd you come after me?" Inuyasha huffed. He was confused since he grew accustomed to her granting wishes all day, only being available at night. In addition, she had two other friends more important than him so he didn't understand why she would take the time to see him.

"Because I wanted to see you." She stated, like it was the most obvious thing in the world.

Over the days, Inuyasha spent quite some time with Kagami and grew used to her honest outbursts. Yet he stared at the girl, still caught off guard by her nonchalant confession.

Kagami's smile quickly turned into a disapproving pout as she looked up at him with crossed arms. "You wouldn't talk or even look at me today. We were fine this morning so what gives?"

"Doesn't matter. You should go back before your little guard boy comes to find you." He mocked not hesitating to copy her disapproving stance in mild annoyance. A part of him felt guilty for treating his only friend in such a way but he couldn't help the bitter feeling in his chest when he saw other men close to her. However, the guilt in his heart worsened once he saw the effects of his actions.

"Huh? Wait, why are you crying?" Inuyasha watched as the woman he grew fond of cry over a matter that he didn't think was that serious.

"I'm sorry Inuyasha. I'm not sure what I did to upset you, but at least let me apologize for it." Kagami muttered as she wiped her tears keeping her gaze towards the ground.

"I came to see you because I enjoy our time together. You take me outside the village and take care of me whenever I get sick. You're my precious friend so..." She moved closer to him and gently clutched the sleeve of his robe.

"Please don't leave..." She pleaded, looking up at him with glossy eyes.

Inuyasha was stunned. He didn't know what to think of her confession. As far as he knew her, Kagami wasn't the type to cry often unless she was completely overwhelmed with emotion. The fact that she cried over such a thought touched his heart as a strange tingling sensation filled his body.

He sighed as whatever irritation he had previously was gone and gave the girl a comforting pat on the head. "Idiot, it's nothing to cry over. I'm not leaving you anytime soon, so don't worry."

"Then why were you mad at me?"

Inuyasha retracted his hand as he looked away in slight embarrassment. He didn't want to admit his actions were from jealousy but he wasn't going to lie either. "I wasn't. I didn't like how close those guys were to you."

"Huh, the men I met earlier? I didn't notice anything weird though." She said very confused with his implication.

"That's because you're oblivious to those sorts of things! They were flirting with you." He shouted quite annoyed at his friend's unawareness.
