CHRISTOPHER | Day One
Christopher Brown
Michael Thompson cleared his throat as he clutched the suitcase in his right hand. Court was about to begin and he took his last few minutes mentally preparing himself to fight for Christopher's freedom.
He was a public defender assigned to defend Christopher and Christopher knew the stereotype of how terrible those lawyers were. However, he got a sense of hope from the middle aged white man who had a few victories under his belt from murders and other heinous crimes. He didn't have high hopes but he wasn't completely hopeless either.
Christopher glanced around the court room hoping to see Sa'hora. He felt himself becoming nervous as they waited for the trial to begin. His eyes landed on Kasmira, a man assuming to be her lover and another older woman he didn't know. Kasmira eyes met him and she sent him a death glare along with the woman that was beside her. He looked away once the judge stepped into the room and made her way to her seat.
"All rise," a court officer ordered standing in front of the pew.
Everyone stood and watched the judge as she took her seat. She was an older black woman with full curly hair and smooth dark brown skin. She sat in her seat and nodded her head towards the officer.
"Court is now in session, you may be seated," she said once the jury and lawyers bowed.
Christopher looked around one more time for Sa'hora but did not yet see her. He glanced at the jury that was made up of two white men, a middle eastern man, three black woman, an asian woman and two white woman and the rest mixed race men.
Bianca Stone, the prosecutor representing Sa'hora stood up and began with her opening statement.
"Your honor, on January 7th, Sa'Hora Santiago's home was broken into, she was assaulted and then taken against her will resulting in her being disappeared for almost one year. During this period of time, the victim was repeatedly assaulted physically and verbally, sexually assaulted and impregnated as a result of said assault. There is also claims that the defendant had been stalking the victim months prior to her abduction. We have reason and sustantical evidence that supports the claim that the defendant is responsible for this occurrence," Bianca stated reading off her opening statement.
"Your honor, my cilent and Sa'hora Santiago had a consensual relationship. She willingly went with Christopher, the two were in a romantic relationship and everything my client is accused of was consensual between the two adults," Michael stated reading his approach to defend Christopher.
"That's a lie!" Sa'hora's Aunt Lorraine yelled causing chatter to erupt in the court room after but the judge hit her gavel to silence the room.
"Quiet! Another outburst and you will be escorted out of my court room," the judge ordered hitting her gavel again.
