Christopher | Mother Dearest
Sa'hora Santiago
Sa'hora watched as Kenzo ran around his grandmother's living room from the couch she was sitting on. Although this was her childhood home, she felt awkward at the tension in the air. She hadn't seen or spoke to her mother since their last conversation when Kenzo was in the hospital. The relationship was sadly strained and with the stubbornness of her mother, there seemed to be no signs of reconciliation.
Throughout all the the chaos that had transpired over the past few months, she hadn't spoke to her father and she was afraid to. Him and her mother weren't on the best of terms last time she spoke to him but once her cousin Sonia reached out to Sa'hora telling her she should stop ignoring her mom because her father wanted to talk to her, she decided to bite the bullet and face her family.
She knew he was probably angry and there was no telling what her mother told him. Sa'hora crossed her legs sighing as she dreaded talking to him.
"You need to put some tea tree oil on his neck to help with that scar,"
Aunt Lorraine said walking into the living room from the kitchen. The atmosphere was awkward and she was waiting for her Aunt Lorraine to curse her out as she always did.
Instead, her aunt took a seat on the opposite end of the couch. She grabbed the remote and turned the television on which was on the evening news. The two sat in silence until Aunt Lorraine spoke again.
"Sa'hora, you really have broken your mother's heart-
"What ab-
"Shut up and listen," Aunt Lorraine's voice boomed.
Kenzo jumped at her stern tone and immediately flopped down on the floor as if she was talking to him. Sa'hora bit her lip and bounced her leg as her body began to heat up.
"Do you not realize how much hell and havoc you've unleashed on this family? She already had to deal with you going missing, her separation from your father along with him being in prison because of you. She finally gets you back and this is how you repay her? Kenzo almost died and she was with him every damn day while you were out doing God knows what and then you have the nerve to block her from seeing him? If she didn't have me I don't know what she would do. She has cried every single night just for you to give her your ass to kiss once that man got released,"
Tears filled Sa'hora's eyes but Aunt Lorraine was not moved. She looked at her niece as if a stranger was in the home. She cleared her throat before speaking again.
