Chapter 1 - Is that really necessary?

"Ooooiiiii come on.....Why should I do this? Why don't we wait for a few more modeling jobs? Sooner or later it'll work out. We've already had two new requests....then I'll just lose these 8 kg...I'll manage." Prem stood grumpily in front of his manager, tapping from one foot to the other, squinting his eyes and sulking like a whole children's birthday party at a sugar-free event.

"Prem Warut Chawalitrujiwong, forget it! Firstly, I don't think it's very healthy for you to have to lose at least 8 kg in 2 weeks because you'd be up for the very job you're talking about and secondly, the other job would be a pretty shady affair, the guy who wants to book you said something about underwear photos, asked how much bare skin you'd be willing to show and whether you mind partner photos. He also claims a reputation that is not really verifiable. You know what that means in this industry, don't you?" Replied P' Paaty, shaking his head with pursed lips. 

"I can try, I should get back to exercising a bit more anyway, I'm sure I'll lose weight in the process and there's no saying the other is an erotic shoot. Maybe just for an underwear catalog?" Prem put his index finger to his chin and thought hard about whether his assumptions could be correct. 

He was simply looking for excuses as he paced nervously, like a tiger in a cage, in front of his manager's desk. 

"Oh Prem.....what's up with you? You'd rather risk starving yourself unhealthy and sick in two weeks or end up in a porn magazine than take part in this BL series that might make you famous everywhere? Are you so afraid of being thought gay? Do you have a problem with gay people?" P' Paaty asked in surprise. He hadn't really thought so, but the way Prem was twisting and turning to avoid having to go to this audition, which was actually a huge opportunity for him, he had no other explanation. 

"No, for God's sake. That's not the problem!...I...ah....SHIAAA!....." Prem dropped into the chair in front of P' Paaty's desk and sighed deeply.

His manager looked at Prem skeptically from the side.

He had just grabbed a pen and was drawing meaningless scribbles on a notepad with a mixture of annoyed and somehow embarrassed expression on his face. When he was nervous, he always had to have something in his hand and do something with it. Right now, this pointless scribbling was the thing that calmed him down a little. 

"Prem, what's got you so nervous? Speak up, if the straight and gay thing isn't a problem, then what is?" Paaty looked rather perplexed. 

Prem threw down his pen in annoyance and hit the table with the flat of his hand. On the opposite side, a utensil with pens and an almost empty Bubbletea cup immediately fell over. 

While Prem indicated a small apologetic bow, combined with an embarrassed smile, and put everything back down, he began to stammer his explanation. 

"I'm not yet....I haven't..... damn it....I've never kissed anyone....whoever my movie partner will be, if I get the part....is my first kiss....and....heavens....whether man or woman I don't think it matters....but what if I don't like him. If I ever want to remember my first kiss, I'd like to remember it with fond memories." Prem pushed his lower lip forward exaggeratedly and was now pouting as sweetly as a 3-year-old.

Paaty hadn't even thought about that. Prem was only 21 and not normally very sociable. He actually spent most of his time hanging out with his family, who were extremely important to him, but he never used to do anything outside of school or, nowadays, outside of his modeling and acting classes. He had started studying economics at university, but rarely attended classes, as he had time to finish it on the side at some point if the entertainment industry didn't work out. He had virtually no contact with fellow students. He only had a few old friends and had never developed a love affair with any of them.
