After lunch at Boun's parents' house, everyone bid May a fond farewell. She smiled longingly at Boun and Prem, as if she wished she could swap places with them. But she could probably now bury her dream of marrying the woman she loved beyond all measure.
Boun and Prem actually wanted to drive her home, but they still had to go to the police station after dinner, so they were a little pressed for time and May wanted to go for a walk again anyway. Her therapist had worked with her on the concept of combating her "depressive mood" with fresh air, exercise and sunshine and she needed some of that right now. She hoped that her father would at least give in a little if Boun's father had a serious talk with him, so that he wouldn't immediately conjure someone else out of a hat for her to marry.
Boun and Prem still had about 30 minutes before they had to drive to the police station.
Of course, Boun's parents had asked why they had an appointment there. Nothing about the incident at WabiSabi had leaked to the press yet, so how could they have known about the stalker?
When they briefly told the story, tears immediately welled up in Boun's mother's eyes. She would have died of fear for Prem and her son if she had found out a little sooner. So it was definitely better to tell her now.
Boun's father also had to swallow hard. He suddenly realized what he had known all along but hadn't really appreciated. Boun and Prem were public figures. They had fans and haters. They were now very well known in Thailand. Their newly planned projects would not make them any less famous.
His son was no longer an unknown model. He had had his breakthrough with his last series, even if he wasn't 100% in the lead role, and that also meant a lot of responsibility, a lot more work and a lot less time for his private life. He now saw it as illusory that things could have worked out with May and was once again annoyed at having been so stupid, when Prem was sitting right under his nose in the boat with him and was such a perfect match.
He was a man... So what?Love is always right when it makes you happy, and those two were the definition of happy.
In this context, Boun's father came up with his mother's house all by himself. She wasn't there today, as the sprightly pensioner was on a shopping trip with her friends from the bingo club, but she had asked her son to find out anyway whether Boun might be interested in her inherited house, especially now that his father had tried to talk him into his former dream woman again.
For the head of the family, however, it made no difference who Boun might move in with, as long as he was happy.
"Dad.... uhm....it's a bit inconvenient now because we have to get going, but....I've thought about it....to be more precise....we've thought about it and...uhm....we..."
Boun grabbed Prem's hand and kissed the back of it.
"....We'd like to renovate and move in.... but I'm fully aware that Yai (Thai name for grandmother) has to decide and if she has something against our relationship, she certainly won't give us the house. If it's ok with you, we would like to contact Yai and arrange a meeting with her to talk about it, maybe over a meal? Because I would also have to sell her gift, the condominium, to help finance the renovation.....I hope she can accept all this."
"Your grandmother may be nearly 80, but you know she's probably a more modern and open-minded person than me.....so don't worry....she loves you very much and will just want to see you happy, the rest doesn't matter." Boun's father was very sure of his statement and was able to reassure Boun.
