During the month of training, Freen had improved her fighting skills, her stamina had increased, she could now run 12 laps of the training ground. Other recruits who initially hated the rigorous training got used to it as well.
Every recruit had their area of expertise and a weapon they could easily handle, the performance of women were far better than anyone had expected it to be and they were proud of it.
The king and the commander had regular meetings and the ruler was eager to see who was capable enough to guard her daughter whereas the princess had no interest, she didn't want a guard, she was fine on her own but it was not like her father would listen to her.
Liam was close to retiring, the princess decided not to disturb her guard in his last days as a guard and a royal army member.
" Tomorrow is the final day, Tomorrow the recruits will give their test and I will decide who is going to guard our future queen ". Arthur informed the king as they walked side by side, the king wanted to visit the training grounds, he had asked his daughter to accompany him as well but she refused.
The reason why Becky maintained her distance from the recruits and refrained herself from visiting the grounds for observation was that the lady whom she met in the market , the Princess didn't have a great feeling about it, her heart picked up pace whenever she saw her smile, according to her it was an unusual behaviour so to protect herself from those dangerous symptoms she never went to the training grounds after that day.
Right now, she was in the library with Liam, Liam was just staring at the bookshelves and wondered why the princess loved reading so much. " Have you read every book present here ? ". Liam asked the princess, the princess looked up from her book and smiled.
" Most of them but I couldn't reach the ones on the top, I was afraid to use the ladder ". The princess shyly admitted, Liam nodded. " You could have asked me ". Liam mumbled, he thought that he didn't do a very good job being a guard.
" Oh I couldn't have done that, what if you fell and broke your arm or something else, who would carry you to the royal doctor's room ? ". The princess shrugged and Liam snorted. " I am not that weak, I am just old ". Liam mumbled angrily, the princess sighed and shook her head.
" That's exactly my point, Liam ". The princess giggled, Liam took his seat next to the princess. " What are you reading ? ". Liam asked and the princess passed him the book so he could read but Liam gave it back with a frown on his face.
" I can't read ". Liam admitted, embarrassed about it, the princess smiled gently. " It is a poem about two people falling in love but then they were forced to be apart and the girl marries another man ". The princess explained the poem in the shortest way possible for Liam, she didn't think it was an insult that Liam didn't know how to read, he was competent in the field he worked.
" Why would you read it ? It is sad ". Liam shook his head and got up as it was time for the princess to head back, the princess put the book back on the shelf.
" I read it to appreciate the literature and the idea ". The princess answered Liam's question as they walked out of the library. " Tomorrow is the day, right ? ". The princess looked at the sky as she asked, Liam sighed and nodded.
" It was great serving you and the royal family ". Liam said with a smile, Rebecca appreciated Liam's company, she loved to annoy him as a kid and she still did but it was time to give the old man rest and spend days with his family.
" I will miss you too ". They walked back when Liam suddenly chuckled. " Don't make the new one, run around the castle to look for you ". Liam stated and the princess looked at her guard with her mouth open.
