"Wh...what?" Lei Wan asked in a daze.
"Yeah, as I said, this island is a mine. It can't be wasted on beaches and hotels. That's why I think you're really unlucky, Lei Wan," the professor said.
I pretended to be shocked and surprised by the news, but I was watching Lei Wan and his bodyguards for any sudden movements. He didn't disappoint me—he looked at me with envy and regret, but without malice. I appreciated such a man.
Professor Zhang came to his senses and said, "We must hold a press conference right away!"
"Eh... what?" I said, slightly taken aback.
"You'll have to excuse my friend; he forgot this is a privately owned island, not a public one," Professor Wen said.
"Ah... ahahahaha, right! I'm sorry, but please allow me to hold a press conference, Mister Shi Feng," Professor Zhang said in embarrassment but still pressed.
I know scientists can be weird about honors, but what was so important that he was in such a hurry?
"If you can help us with the press conference, please do, and we won't take our consultation fee. It's really important for us to make the announcement before the new month begins," Professor Wen explained. There were awards they were almost certain to win if they announced the discovery this month, but if they waited until next month, they'd have to compete against whatever might be discovered in the coming year.
I thought for a moment, then called my parents and told them what had happened and that it would be noisy after the press conference. I also asked Professor Wen about mining the vein myself, and he strongly advised against it.
"I roughly know the profit difference between mining yourself or selling the rights, but this island is really risky. You need giants in the field. But if you insist, at least partner with an experienced mining company so you don't run into legal issues later if something happens."
I knew what he was talking about, but I didn't like the idea of sharing the shares. I shook my head in frustration and kept quiet.
Two days later, we held a press conference after negotiating with the authorities and securing the mining rights, though we were required to pay 15% taxes on the gross revenue. Then we began discussions with mining companies. Just as I expected, Starlink Corporation arrived with an arrogant attitude, as if the mine was their birthright.
In the office, while discussing future mining plans with my parents—including a company I knew would be successful and had invested in, though even after a year my parents and I only owned 3.5% each—the secretary announced that Starlink representatives had arrived.
"Pleasure to meet you, Mister and Miss Feng. I'm Lu Xingluo, the heir of Starlink Corporation," he said with an arrogant look on his face.
"Hello. Shi Feng, owner of Zero Wing Corporation and heir of the Feng family," I said, smiling.
"Eh... ah, you're the 'lucky charm' who won the lottery! Hahahahaha, nice to meet you," Lu Xingluo said, showing he had investigated us.
"Hahahahaha, 'lucky charm' is really an appropriate name, as I feel blessed by the heavens," I said, laughing—and I meant it. Who else gets to reincarnate twice without being blessed?
"Anyway, I came today to buy the mining rights and the island from you. Can you tell me your price?" he said with a slightly annoyed voice but kept his smile.
I frowned as if I had heard something wrong. "Buy? I don't think we announced we were selling anything, did we?"
"No, you didn't, but that doesn't mean anything. You know there are some things just beyond your power, and a vein this large is one of them," he said as if it were a natural law that we would sell the mine.
"Okay, thank you for your advice, Mister Lu Xingluo. We will think really hard about your words and get back to you," I said while standing up to show the meeting was over.
"Oh, are you sure you want me to leave now? Later, you might want to find me, but I may not be able to meet you," Lu Xingluo said as if he were watching a joke.
"Well, that would be a surprise for me, but we will just have to wait and see," I replied with the same smile.
The man next to Lu Xingluo frowned but remained quiet and didn't make any movements until they left and got into the car, where Lu Xingluo yelled:
"What the hell happened in there? I thought I brought you to exert pressure on them, not to be my vase!"
"Are you insane? Didn't you feel anything from that guy?" Wang Zongquan said, trembling, trying to calm his nerves, but they wouldn't stop shaking.
"Ha? What are you talking about? What happened to you?" Lu Xingluo said, taken aback by Wang Zongquan's trembling.
"If we had stayed any longer, we wouldn't have made it out in one piece. That guy is a monster, and I advise you to run away from him. The only reason we left uninjured is that his parents were there. But even that seemed to have a limit—I think I saw his eyes shine for a moment when I wanted to make him feel some pressure, as if he was hoping for it," Wang Zongquan said, still trembling.
"I'm not sure, but I think he is a Mental Strength Master, and a very high-level one at that—maybe even more," he added, though he himself looked confused. It didn't make sense for someone so young to reach such heights without a powerful background.
Lu Xingluo was taken aback and yelled to hide his fear, "Are you insane? You're telling me a kid around 20 years old is an MSM? Have you lost your mind? And if he is as you said, why would he allow us to talk to him that way? There's no way that's true!"
Suddenly, his phone rang from an unknown number. He answered with an annoyed voice, "Who is it?"
"It's me, Shi Feng," my voice came from the phone.
"Wh...what?" Lu Xingluo asked, fear evident in his voice.
