C: Hey, do you know any good Cafés here?
A: Yeah, ever heard of the Jolex's? It's like a little bistro down the street from the trainingshall.
C: sounds really good, thank you. Care to join?
A: Can't. Sorry.
Callie threw her phone on her bed. She had really enjoyed the night out with Arizona. They had been bowling, not Callie's first choice for a meet up, but it was great. The blonde could be fun when spending some time with someone.
Despite being in a bowling alley, the women did more speaking than bowling. Callie quickly realized that Arizona was quite good at the game, but figured out that she had probably been bowling with her old team quite often.
All in all it was a fun night, so saying that she was disappointed that Arizona wouldn't join her for a coffee. She had hoped to build a friendship with the other woman.
LD
Arizona had been right. The owners, Jo and Alex, a couple that had been together and married for many years, were two of the nicest people she'd met so far. Callie definitely understood why Arizona recommended it to her.
She had just ordered when the mint green door opened and two women entered. And it was no one less than Teddy and Arizona. Teddy with a shi teating grin on her face, walking in front of Arizona. She spotted Callie immediately and pulled Arizona behind her towards her table. "Callie, hey!" Teddy said joyful. By now Arizona had figured her best friend's plan out. She felt like a little child, standing behind her parents, while her mother would ask if her friend was free to play with her. Just that she wasn't that little child anymore. And Teddy wasn't her mother. "Are those seats taken?"
Callie quickly declined and let the other two women have a seat. Teddy sat down right beside her, Arizona opposite of her.
"Did the two of you had fun last night?" Teddy asked, even tho it was obvious that she already knew all details.
Callie and Arizona shot each other looks, silently asking who should answer.
"Good"
"Great" they both replied. Am awkward silence came up, Teddy waiting for one of them to say more, while both, Callie and Arizona waited for the other one to talk more about the previous night. When Callie looked over to Arizona she saw a quite annoyed look on her face, which she was shooting towards Teddy. Teddy sat there, now staring at her phone before typing something in. "I just received a message. My appointment was brought forward, I've gotta go." Teddy said and already stood up. And before Arizona could stand up too, Teddy said her goodbyes and left.
"I uh can just call a cab and leave you here. If you want." Arizona said quiet and slow.
"No, it's fine. Please stay." Callie quickly said. She knew what Teddy was up to and in some ways was thankful for Teddy's actions. "Wanna have a coffee?"
"Sure."
The awkward silence came up again, leaving both women wondering how to break it. For some reason it felt harder having a conversation today than last night. Last night they had talked, or rather Callie had talked and Arizona had listened, gave her opinions to some things and told a story from her old team. It was obvious to Callie how much Arizona loved her old team. When talking about it, the blonde had a spark in her eyes that Callie hadn't seen on her before.
"Have you met Alex and Jo yet?" Arizona was the first one to speak and break the silence.
"Yeah, I did. They are great."
"I used to come here all the time but-" Arizona cut herself off, leaving Callie wondering what she had wanted to say. "I just don't have the time anymore."
Before Callie could ask more, a brown haired woman came towards the table. "Oh my God! Alex told me you would be sitting here but I didn't believe him. But you are!" A quite excited Jo called out while jogging towards their table. "Ooh I've missed you!" She said while hugging Arizona.
"It's nice to see you again. How is life treating you?" Arizona asked and Callie instantly saw that shine in blue eyes again.
"Perfect. No honestly. Business is working great, our marriage couldn't be happier and well... We are starting a family soon." Jo said while putting a hand on her stomach. Arizona looked down where she could identify a little bump.
"No, you are pregnant? Congratulations." The blonde said, again hugging Jo.
"So what about you? Last thing I've heard was tha-"
"Jo? I need your help back here." Alex called.
"You have to call me sometime soon. I'm sure Alex would love to catch up with you again. You kinda just disappeared after the team broke up." Jo said with a hint of sadness in her voice.
As fast as she had come, Jo had left.
"Would I ask too much if I'd ask you why your old team broke apart?" Callie carefully asked. She didn't want to intrude in the blonde's privat Life too much, but her curiosity got the beat out of her.
The blonde thought about it for a moment before speaking up. It came out as barely a whisper but Callie could make out the word the blonde had said. "Emory"
"Wasn't that your old partner?" Callie asked, taking a sip from her coffee.
"Yeah. We danced for over five years together."
"So, why did the teak fall apart?"
"Well, Jo and Alex had decided that they weren't gonna dance another season and Teddy had an injury that she couldn't treat fast enough until the next competitions."
"What about Emory?"
Arizona looked at her. "Emory left." She simply said, her voice being even more quiet than before.
"I'm getting a headache. I'm gonna head home, get some sleep before practice. See you later?"
Arizona asked. Callie could tell that she had questioned Arizona too much."Yeah, sure. See you later." And with that, Arizona stood up, took her purse and left.
