Seated in front of the prime minister of Italy, I shift my gaze, eyeing the many men and woman who has a seat at the table.
I've been here for a while, and nothing that I am interested in has been said.

Pure random white folks muttering; it is all you can hear in the room.

I'm already pissed, and these people are making my anger rise by the minute. Hours on a plane, away from my family, just to be in a meeting where none of who are speaking.

All mi know, smaddy betta start talk before duppy start walk.

"We appreciate you for coming so soon, Mr Wright. I know this is sudden but due to the laws of this association and the concerns of many, this meeting must be held as soon as possible."

One of them speaks. You can tell he's somewhat important and apart of whatever association he mentioned.

I finally look carefully at the man and for a minute I saw my father— Khalil. I breathe loudly, tapping my finger on the metal handle of the chair. "So, to not hold up your time any longer, let's start."

Now, I am seated up right and waiting for him to speak but he's interrupted by the ringing of my phone.

My woman.

"Hold on for a second... Baby?" I answer the phone, getting up from the chair before walking towards a window.

Chatter fills the room and I hiss, turning the volume up on my phone. "Kie-kiehlani a cry from morning babe and she nah tell mi what happen to her."

"She's not talking and I'm scared a-and mi very irritated right now. Mi head all a start to hurt me because she nah stop and mi nuh know wah fi do!"

-she shouts, bringing the camera from the baby to her face that's drenched in tears.
She looks more stressed than she was two days ago.
