"Why isn't my feet showing, Kiehlani?" I giggle, skipping through the millions of pictures she took under a minute.

Half of them are blurry.

"I want to play wit' buba!" She huffs. I roll my eyes, already jealous of their bond. She's frustrated, even though it's just been a few minutes since she left her father's side.

I have no reason to be jealous though. I'm just not used to her being around him everyday as yet.

"You'll go back to your father soon, Lani."

The attitude is evident in my voice as I make my way to the standing mirror. My attire is clean and simple, nothing too flashy for errands.

My phone rings, an unknown number popping up.

I decide on not answering. Today started out positive, whoever is calling is not about to ruin my day that barely started.

I call my mother instead.

She looks... not okay.

"Hey mommy. You look so sad today? Something happened?" I ask. I watch Kiehlani quietly leave the room.

She swears I'm not seeing her.

"No, nothing happened. It's just that today is our anniversary. I really miss him, Celest. I'm confused, I don't know why he left... out of nowhere."

Goosebumps fill my skin at the mention of my father.
We haven't talked about him in a while, mainly because the topic makes both our moods drop.

Me, worse.

I know what I did and It's eating me up. I can't help but blame myself, even though he was for sure in the wrong.

We still should have thought of another solution.

Taking someone's life is... that's heartless.

I sigh.

"I'm sorry, mommy. I still have faith that he'll come back, one day." I lie to her. I try my best to not cry.
