Beth's POV
"Hi, my name is Bethany Smith and I am just calling to see if you have any positions available," I say for the hundredth time.

"Not at the moment sorry," The lady from Kelly's Grill says. "But if you want to send us through your resume we can give you a call when we do."

"That would be great," I sigh.

"kelly@kellygrillandbar.com.au," she says. "Have a good day."

She hangs up on me and I feel like slamming my head into the table. Why all of a sudden are there no jobs?

One job I found is like two hours away and I can't afford to drive up and back. Plus I am stubborn and refuse to take money from Kevin.

"Dan said he'd take you back," Kevin had said to me over breakfast.

I bit my bottom lip and thought about heading over there. I should be fine if I don't go into the bathroom. Plus Violet is right, I need closure from that place.

I miss Jerry the local drunk and talking to Bonnie about all the town gossip. I loved that job till he ruined it.

I get dressed into something more presentable and head down to the bar. I stop outside as my stomach curls.

Maybe this wasn't a good idea after all.

"Bethany?"

I knew that voice. I heard her in court as she cried when she found out her youngest son was also abused. I am not ready to see her. I spin around and am almost flabbergasted at how she looks. She looked really happy. Her skin was glowing, her red hair was as vibrant as ever and if I didn't know she was over 40 I would've pegged her for someone my age which was 27.

"Hi Georgie," I murmur.

"Cole told me you were back in town," she says. "I didn't think I would see you here."

"I didn't think I would come back," I say. "But I need a job and Dan said I could have mine back."

"Dan feels horrible about what happened," Georgie states. "He says it's his fault as he should've been here with you."

"It's not his fault," I murmur. "Or yours."

Georgie sighs. "I used to blame myself. That if I didn't come here, you wouldn't have been hurt."

"Your ex is a horrible man," I say. "I'm sorry you went through so many years of that."

Georgie gives me a sad smile. "You don't need to apologise."

"I hear you and Cole are married and have twins of your own," I say. "That's great."

"I am very happy here with Cole and so are the boys," she says. "They are sixteen now."

"Oh gosh that makes me feel old," I groan, laughing a little.

"Trust me, I know," Georgie laughs. She sobers up. "You deserve to be happy too, Beth."

I nod. "I think I am starting to get there."

"That's good," Georgie murmurs. "Are you heading inside?"

"Not today," I murmur. "I think I made a big step just being outside."

She nods. "Well, we are looking for a waitress at the café if you want a job."

"Yeah," I say. "That would be great."

I am so happy I didn't puke like I did with Lenny

I scowl at the list that Kevin sent me. "Cheese in a can?' I mumble to myself. "How is this guy a pro athlete?"

Kevin had asked me to go grocery shopping for him while he was at practice. I said yes because I was bored out of my mind. Turns out Kevin eats like shit.

I get the rest of his groceries and get to the front counter, putting my basket up for the store clerk. She scans them in, not even glancing at me and just chewing on her gum loudly. "Any coupons?" She asks.

"No," I answer.

"That'll be $122.63," she says. I scan Kevin's card and pop in his pin. "You look familiar," she says to me suddenly.

"I used to live here six years ago," I state.

She snaps her fingers. "You worked at Dan's."

I nod tensely. "Yep."

"Are you the one who got sexually assaulted?" She asks rudely. "Poor Dan was so sad about it."

Ugh, this is one of the girls Dan slept with and never got the hint. "You are very rude," I say.

She shrugs. "I think I am more honest."

I look at her name tag and see that her name is Jade. "Oh, your that Jade," I say out loud.

"Did Dan talk about me?" She asks.

"All the time," I lie. "I think he loves you."

She scowls suddenly aware that I am messing with her. "You're a bitch."

I smile. "At least I am not in love with someone who will never love me back."

I grab my bags and storm out of the store.

That felt good.
