Dan's POV
"They didn't like me that much after the whole pulling the plug thing," I mutter. "Said I killed Emily."

"I'm sorry, Dan," Beth murmurs.

"She wouldn't have wanted to live like that," I tell Beth. "Emily was an adventurous woman, she would've hated being confined to a wheelchair and breathing out of a tube."

"You did the right thing,' Beth whispers. "You would've known what was best for her Dan."

I nod. I tuck the photo back into the menus and take Beth's hand in mine. I lead her to the couch and I sit down. She gets on top of me and kisses me. I wrap my arms around her and hold her tightly.

I never wanted to let Beth go.

The Chinese get here and we make ourselves comfortable on the couch. Beth didn't eat all of hers so I ate the rest.

She grabs a cookie and snaps it. "Your success will astonish everyone," Beth reads out loud. She huffs. "I don't like that one."

I grab mine and crunch it with my hand. "My heart is wherever you are."

"That's cute," Beth says.

My throat tightens up refusing to let out the words I want to tell her. That I did love her.

But that was a scary thing. The last girl I loved died and I couldn't go through that again.

"Dan?"

I snap back to reality and smile at Beth. "Sorry?"

She frowns. "You spaced out, are you okay?"

I nod and lean over and kiss her. "I'm good," I murmur.

She smiles. "Great because I have some news."

"Do tell," I say.

"I saw Jade today," she says.

"Jade, as in the girl I used to"

"Yes," she cuts me off. "She came into the cafe."

"With Georgie there?" I question. "She had a death wish."

"Seems like she is finally moving on from you," Beth says. "Poor guy though, he seemed nice."

"She does too at first," I mutter.

I grunt in surprise as Beth gets back on top of me. Her hands rest on my thighs and she smiles at me mischievously. "Can I watch you again?" She whispers.

"Okay," I croak. "I need to warm up though."

Beth leans forward and smashes her lips on mine. Her tongue was eager, finding its way into my mouth and entwining with mine and my cock liked that very much.

"I think he's awake," Beth says against my lips.

She pushes herself back and sits on my knees again. I stop myself before I take it out. "I feel like this is one-sided," I murmur. "Did you want to do anything?"

She shakes her head. "No."

"But Beth surely you need some-"

"I haven't done anything before," she admits.

"You haven't pleasured yourself?"

"No," she breathes out.

"Fuck sake he took that from you too," I growl.

"Well I shared a room with Kev," Beth says. "It would've been weird."

Yeah there is no way I am getting off now

*

It was 3 am and I needed to speak with my best friend. I had left Beth in my bed at the apartment and strolled down the street in my sneakers and plaid pyjama pants. I call him from outside his apartment door.

"Hello?" His voice croaks over the phone.

"I'm outside," I tell him and hang up.

Five minutes later the front door opens and Cole is standing there in his soccer shorts. "You better have a good reason for this," he grumbles, letting me in.

I make my way to his couch and sit down. Cole sits beside me and rubs his eyes tiredly. "I didn't know where else to go," I say.

"Okay?"

"I love Beth," I admit out loud.

"Well that is great man," Cole says slapping my back. He notices the sick look I have on my face. "Or not?"

"I can't go through that again man," I croak.

"Beth isn't Emily," Cole whispers.

I shake my head rapidly and swallow the bile making its way up my throat. "But she could be."

"Dan you can't go living life, thinking everyone you love is going to die," Cole whispers. "If we were all like that we would never know the true meaning of love."

"I guess your right," I mumble.

"I know I am," Cole says. "I keep telling you I am a genius."

"I thought Georgie was the brains in the relationship?" I question. He flips me off and we both laugh. "Sorry for showing up at 3 am."

"I was awake with Hayley anyway," Cole says.

"I better go, 'cause Beth is at home," I tell him.

"How are things going?" Cole asks as he follows me to the door.

"Good," I answer. "She watches me jack off."

Cole bursts out laughing. "What?"

"She isn't ready for anything sexual yet," I murmur. "But likes to watch me get off."

Cole hums, amusement in his eyes. "Well, I'll see you later."

"Thanks again man," I say.
