Dan's POV
I take the glasses out of the dishwasher and nearly drop them all when I find Tynesha staring at me. "Fuck sake, Nesha," I snap. She laughs. "You seem to forget I'm a ninja."
I place the glasses on the bench and glare at her. "No, you just want me to die at 28 of a heart attack."
I start drying the glasses and feel her still staring. "You are happy," she points out.
"Yeah I am," I say slowly.
"When I left after her death you were miserable," she says. "It's good to see the old Dan back."
"Yeah, it was a rough couple of years," I admit. "But Beth pulled me through."
"How come you guys never got together before?" She asks.
"I wasn't ready then," I answer. "I'm glad we waited because me back then would've slept with her and just never looked at her again."
She nods. "You think she was interested?"
I shrug. "I don't know."
"I can finish them," Nesha says. "You were supposed to finish hours ago."
I smirk. "That's what she said."
She hits me with the tea towel and I laugh as I walk around the bar. Jerry enters the bar and takes his usual seat. "You have to pay your tab today, Jerry," Nesha says.
Jerry gets his wallet out and gives Nesha his card. He nods at me. "Hey Dan."
"What's going on Jerry?" I ask.
"I bit of work today," Jerry answers. "Sunny, so heaps of people want their lawns mowed."
"Good for business," I say.
"My legs are killing me," he complains. He smiles are Nesha in thanks and takes a big gulp. "Ah so good!"
"See y'a Jerry," I say, chuckling as I exit the bar.
I drive myself to Beth's place and Kev answers the door. "Beth just ran out to get something before the store closes, but she shouldn't be too long," he says. "However I do need to warn you that Violet is here."
I raise an eyebrow. "She came back?"
Kev huffs. "She has no money and Beth always falls for her puppy eyes."
Kev lets me in and shuts the door behind me. He leads me into the living room where Violet is, shoving popcorn into her mouth. She sees me and straightens in her seat and fluffs her hair down.
Still hasn't changed if she knows I'm with Beth and still wants to fuck me.
"The dead person's sloppy seconds are here," I say, sitting on the couch. Kev sits beside me and coughs, failing miserably to hide his laugh.
She had the nerve to giggle. "It was just a joke."
"A joke?" I question. "Didn't feel like a joke when I had to watch the women I loved die right in front of me."
"It's been like forever though," Violet says, pouting. "You still can't joke about it, you poor baby?"
The front door opens and I sigh in relief. I get up out of my seat and rush out of the living room to find Beth.
"Hey," she says as soon as she sees me. I wrap my arms around her and rest my head on her shoulder. "You feel tense," she murmurs.
"That's what your sister does to me," I mutter.
She sighs. "I'm sorry, she just had no place else to go."
I won't comment on it and pull away from Beth. We share a kiss and then I follow her into the kitchen as she puts away what looks like a bag of flour. "How was your day?" I ask.
"Hectic," she laughs. "Beverley booked a table for like 50 people today and Georgie still isn't fully back from her arm."
"I'm sure you did amazing," I tell her.
"Well no complaints," she says. "How about you?"
"Good," I answer. "Nesha was saying to me she likes that the Old Dan is back. That I'm happy."
Beth smiles. "Because of me?"
"Of course," I murmur. She walks over to me and wraps her arms around my neck. I pull her into a passionate kiss, my hands clutching her hips. I press her back against the counter and she moans softly in my mouth when I accidentally rub my pelvis against hers.
"Jesus we eat here," I hear Violet say in disgust. Beth pushes me away and smiles apologetically at Violet.
"Sorry Vi," Beth murmurs.
"You have a room," Violet deadpans.
"And so do you now, so why don't you go use it instead of annoying us," I snap.
"Dan," Beth hisses.
I thin my lips out and I see Violet smirking at me. "It's alright Beth, he's just mad because I mentioned his dead wife."
I tense and so does Beth. "Why?" Beth questions.
"Well apparently you told him I said he was dead persons sloppy seconds?" Violet questions. "But don't worry I'll forgive you for telling Dan what I said about him behind his back."
She walks off upstairs and Beth's bottom lip trembles. "Hey," I whisper and pull her into my arms. "It's fine."
"It's not fine, I just stood up for her instead of you," Beth croaks. "I can't believe I'm so stupid that I let her back in."
"Beth she is your sister," I sigh. "And as much as I don't like her, if you want to have a relationship with her you should."
"I don't know if I want to," Beth murmurs. "She's such a horrible person."
Amen to that
