You walked back to your master's study alongside Sebastian in a notable slump, and took your usual spot on Ciel's desk for your usual refreshments.

You had gotten handmade (flavor) treats in the shape of a heart, served with a saucer of cream while Ciel was served something called "Demon Hound bean cakes" from Houndsworth, served with what looked like Japanese green tea.

While you ate your refreshments, Ciel picked up one of his bean cakes and looked at it with dissatisfaction.

"Why are you serving me this rubbish?" He asked bluntly before eating the cake anyways.

"Bard and the others purchased quite a few of them." Sebastian explained almost matter-of-factly.

"How was the interview this afternoon?" Ciel asked, in which you paused lapping at your cream to peer at the butler out of the corner of your eye. He seemed to sense your glare as he smirked at you smuggly.

"I only wish thay you could have been there, my lord." He said, somehow sounding nonchalant but condescending at the same time. "Tanaka was really quite extraordinary."

"That's good," Ciel noted with a smirk of his own. "A distinguished old man makes a suitable face for the company."

"Yes." Sebastian agreed, meeting your eyes as you turned your head to give him a dirty look.

You had to repress an annoyed groan, and instead exhaled sharply through your nose, begrudgingly turning back to your cream, slowly licking at the saucer again.

"The interviewer deigned to take a photograph before he left."

This caught Ciel's attention. "Did he?"

"Apparently portrait photos are all the rage among the nobles lately." Your ear perked up as you gave a suspicious glance at the butler out of the corner of your eye.

"Are they?" Ciel asked after a pause. He sensed the taunt in Sebastian's voice, but didn't want to address it.

"I know, young master," Sebastian didn't try to mask the smugness in his voice as he continued. "Why not try your hand at it yourself?"

"No." Ciel replied curtly, eating another bean cake.

You finally glanced over your shoulder at him, just in time to see him give you the most cocky yet syrupy sweet smile you've seen on him. You glared at him, and rested your muzzle in your cream, blowing a few bubbles in it.

Damn demon.

That night, you sat on Ciel's window sill beside him, watching as the three servants pulled three large objects across the yard, apparently to a designated spot.

"It's almost time." Ciel broke the silence, making you look up at him. "Let's go."

With that, he turned and walked towards the door, with you following after him with a hesitant gait.

"All of this trouble for a measly photo, sir?" You asked tiredly. "At this point, wouldn't it be easier to--"

"I have my reasons." He replied quickly, without looking at you. "Just trust me when I say that this will work."

You rolled your eyes, letting out a soft sigh.

"If you say so, sir."

Out on the moonlit courtyard, you watched wearily as Finny picked up a large, headless angel statue, and held it up over his head as if it were a measly twig. He stared at the boy with the same weary expression as you.

"Are you sure this is okay?" The gardener asked nervously.

"Yes." Ciel answered, with his back turned to him.

"...I don't know." Finny resisted. He usually wasn't the one to hesitate on orders, but this one in particular didn't seem the least bit rational.

But Ciel wasn't known for patience.

"Do it, Finny!"

At the harshness of the young child's voice, Finny straightened up in reluctant resolve. "Right!"

You watched with a weary eye as the gardener spun the massive statue in his hands a few times to pick up speed, and at once threw it up into the night sky.

Here we go.

You looked up to see the winged stone figure hurtling towards the boy, as Finny squatted and grasped his head, hardly daring to look.

You still couldn't believe it. Of all the measures your master would take, you didn't expect him to be this desperate.

It almost felt like slow motion, watching the statue hurtle down towards the child, and you found yourself sinking your claws into the dirt as the stone steadily came closer and closer with each passing second.

This blasted plan better be worth this--!

"Look out, sir!"

Unable to hold back anymore, Finny jumped up and ran towards the boy aiming to push him out of the way.

Finny! Wait! Don't--! "Meeeoorw--!" You leapt onto your paws, racing after the gardener, watching as he lunged towards Ciel, but in that moment, a large explosion suddenly erupted from the spot where your master stood, and you had to stop and throw a paw up to keep rock debris from hitting your face.

After a period of uncomfortable silence, you finally spared a look at what the damage was.

As the cloud cleared, you caught sight of Finny laying a few paces away from the spot Ciel was standing, looking dizzy as if he had been struck by a carriage. Your eyes slowly trailed over to Ciel's spot, and unsurprisingly, you found Sebastian was knelt over Ciel's small frame, completely blocking the sculpture's blow and leaving him completely unharmed.

Alls that remained were the stone wings, which stuck up from the demon's back like a mock angel. They only stood for a few seconds before crumbling to dust.

While you'd normally laugh at the irony, your tension kept you from even uttering a squeak. After a moment of shock, you trotted over to inspect Finny, sniffing at his face and placing your paws on his back to check his breathing.

This damned attempt nearly cost us a young gardener. You thought indignantly, still feeling the young man's somewhat shallow breathing. I hope master's happy with this--

However, your inspection was interrupted by a bright light overhead, and you looked up to find a trio of large dragon shaped sparklers surrounding you all.

"What a charming picture the two of you make." You heard a voice comment, and you turned to find Lau and Ran-mao emerge from behind one of the dragon figures.

"You're late." Ciel grumbles at Sebastian, who stared almost unblinkingly back at him.

"My apologies, sir." Sebastian replied calmly. "I was making dinner preparations."

What??

"For the entrée this evening, we will have Canard à la Rouennaise."

"That's nice..." Ciel commented casually.

You huffed, letting your head drop onto Finny's back.

This has been a long day...

Wee, another part to this.

I've been active on Tumblr a lot, and there's a bunch of Black Butler content there, not to mention an apparent new season of it, so I've been slowly starting to trickle back into the Kuroshitsuji roll. But even then, the lack of transcripts to replicate makes things a bit more difficult than most books.

In the meantime, let this be a reminder that I do work on older fics, I'm just very slow.

But, like usual, I ask that you don't ask for updates, since that makes things go even slower.

Thanks much, cheers. ☕️
