"Such a darling."
Ciel sipped his tea as he watched the waitress knelt down and gently scritch between your ears as she set a small saucer of cream in front of you. You purred politely to the matron in a practiced fashion, earning a giggle from her as she served both Abberline and Ciel their moon cakes. "Quite a well behaved feline you have."
"Indeed. She is one of a kind. Don't you think, inspector?" Ciel replied politely as she departed with a lighthearted air about her. Abberline eyed your resting form beside Ciel's ankle suspiciously. "I... suppose she is." He replied uneasily watching as you lapped at your offered cream in a controlled and calculated manner, taking a moment to wipe your mouth with your paw. "...A bit uncanny, If you will..."
"Hm. Either or, this isn't about her." Ciel immediately switched up, fixing the man with a suspicious glare as he picked up his mooncake. "What is an inspector from the yard doing here? What's your business, Abberline?"
"...Murder." He answered after a pause. "A man's corpse was found this morning, trapped in the ice on the Thames."
You felt a small chill run up your spine. Although you were used to the more gruesome of details, the image of finding a corpse in the ice below your own feet was enough to curdle your blood.
"We learned he was a member of a certain criminal organization." Abberline continues, "I'm here because Scotland Yard wants to hunt down that man's killer and we also want to recover a ring that he stole; a blue diamond, one supposedly worth over £2,000."
A diamond, huh? You thought with a glazed expression. You've heard of them but never seen one for yourself in real time. Those are the gemstones humans are after the most.
"The diamond... the ultimate symbol of eternal radiance."
Your ear twitched at the sound of another familiar voice, and turned your head to find Lau had suddenly made his appearance before you all, with Ran-Mao in toe. When did he get here?
"A stone that bewitches all those that see its sparkle, what man wouldn't be inspired to pursue such an exquisite prize? Even knowing all that awaits him is total destruction."
...ever so creepy as usual.
You were startled by the abrupt sound of a chair being moved as Abberline stood up from his chair quickly in alarm. "Impossible! How do you know about the Hope piece??"
"You're after the Hope piece?" Ciel questioned, a bit surprised himself.
What's happening? "Mreow?" You questioned, pushing yourself up into the sitting position.
"Oh? Interesting," Lau notes, feigning ignorance, much to Ciel's annoyance. "Such a gemstone really does exist? Oh my!"
"Wha- hold on!" Abberline protests in confusion. "But you were sayin-"
Don't question him. "Meow." You piped up, cutting him off, prompting the inspector to look at you with a put-out expression.
"Right. It's best to ignore him; he was blabbering" Ciel agreed, earning a confused 'Huh?' from the man. "Anyway, Lau, what in the world are you doing here?'
"I own this place, my lord." Lau elaborates. You were briefly surprised, but now that you looked, the waitresses had garments similar to Ran-mao's which made some sense. Not to mention the theme matching him.
"Yes, of course you do..." Ciel grumbles in annoyance before turning back to his meal begrudgingly. You stood in your sitting position, further listening in to this.
"This Hope piece you were talking about sounds fascinating, my lord." Lau continues on. "Perhaps you can tell me more about it?"
"Have you never heard of it?" Ciel questions as Lau sits in a chair with Ran-Mao resting in his lap. "A blue gem known as the hope diamond, named after the man whose collection it was a part of. Henry Philip Hope."
"Don't know it." Lau replies simply.
Me neither. "Mew." You added with a shake of your head.
"It pasted to Louis the sixteenth and Marie Antoinette. We know how they ended. The diamond is said to be a cursed stone; that brings ruin to all who possess it." Ciel explains. "At one point, it was stolen and cut into smaller pieces to disguise it. Rumor has it that two still exist."
Still exist, eh? You raised your brow. That's a bit unsettling...
"Those shards of diamond would certainly be valuable." Ciel gives the inspector a somewhat suspicious glare. "Tell me, Abberline... is that what you're searching for?"
There as a brief pause as he hesitates to answer. "...the diamond was being moved as evidence, it's carriage was attacked. It was stolen."
Of course it was. "Mreow." You murmured audibly.
"Intriguing," Ciel notes with a mischievous smile on his lips. "Give me details; we would like to lend you a hand."
Abberline reeled back in surprise and confusion. "We?"
"Of course we can't force you. But then, if you do decide to refuse us, we can see to it that sir Arthur finds himself in a rather awkward position." He leans back in his chair, signaling you to leap onto his lap, in which he runs his hand over your back. "Isn't that right, (Name)?"
Indeed, sir. "Mreaw." You replied in a placid tone, deliberately looking the man in the eye now.
He grimaced in discomfort and frustration, both at Ciel's threat and his discomfort with your 'uncanny' behavior.
Question is, where do we have a lead from?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You can NOT be serious. You stared up at the familiar sign with dread.
"You're SURE this is the right place??" Ciel asks flippantly.
"Yes it is." Abberline confirmed. "He set up shop here because some many people have been freezing to death during the frost fair."
"Inspector... you can't be serious, not him." Lau glared, dissatisfied.
"Yes him, and you lot can wait right here outside," Abberline stated with an air of annoyed finality. "You are lucky I let you accompany me at all."
You glared at the man as he went to enter The Undertaker's little Thames shop, only to fall through the trick door.
"What a hopeless fool." Ciel scorned as you let out a snort in irritation.
"One of the privileges of youth, my lord." Lau notes.
Tch. Not all youths are fools. "Mreew." You murmured, earning a cheek scritch from Ciel.
After a pause, Lau spoke up again. "So. What is this place?"
"It's the Undertaker's parlour!" Ciel exclaims to the man in annoyance. "You met him during the Jack the Ripper case, remember??"
"Oh right!"
"Abberline won't last one minute in there." Ciel mutters. "Sebastian prepare to-"
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!
He was suddenly interrupted by a boisterous laughter from the small set up, much to your and Ciel's shock.
Well. This day is full of surprises, ain't it? "Mew?"
"Perhaps so..."
Surprise~
Again, due to a lack of transcripts, this fic is a tad tedious to create, since I have to track down each episode and simultaneously watch and write at the same time x_x (not to mention a difficulty in interpreting some words sometimes, I'm using English Dub at the moment-) and the Fandom itself is a bit scarce, but thankfully Tumblr is rampant with it.
But here it is. I'm trying my best where it stands now, but please, if there are any transcripts available somewhere, let me know; it'll make this process much simpler!
