"a holiday you say? in this season though?" you question, ear perked in interest. Ciel ran his hand over your back and nodded. "indeed, my dear (name)." he says, voice soft but monotone. he then looks up at sebastian, taking a more stern tone to his voice. "tell me, have you heard of the past time known as bear baiting?"

bear baiting? you raise your head, tail twitching in curiosity. "sounds entertaining, but I'm afraid I've never heard of it." sebastian answers. "indulge me, sir?"

ciel runs a hand over your head as he elaborated. "a bear is chained to a wall, and is then surrounded by vicious dogs. which slowly bite and kill it." at this, your stomach twists and you sink your claws into the desk. you almost feel sick as you envisioned the poor bound creature slowly get the life bitten out of them, suffering until every last drop was spilled. how could any human be this horrible?! ciel must of felt you stiffen beneath his hand, because he almost immediately itched behind your ear in a near comforting gesture. "it was banned back in 1935 when the Cruelty to animals act was passed. however there was a loophole; the attack dogs they used were not banned." your eyes widened, even the half-blind one behind your frilled (color) eyepatch. "so a new game developed." you lower your head and place your paws over your eyes. "OoooOhhh..." you moaned almost inaudibly. "where would they allow such horrific games..!?" ciel had the flash of sympathy in his eyes for you for a moment before it quickly gave way to the emotionless mask in normally was. "it is quite popular in Houndsworth." he rubbed your shoulders reassuringly. "do not fret, my dear. the queen dreads this sport as well as we do. so she had put us up to the task. "
~~~~~~
"oOhH.." you moaned out as the thought dawned on you. you could swear you felt the jaws of the dog all over your body, biting every square inch of it. you curled your paws over your eyes, trembling. we can't stop this any quicker... "something amiss, dear?" your master asked slightly startled by the outburst, stroking your back. you look up at him, eye slitted and the look of terror on your face for a moment before you looked back down. "I'm... fine." you meowed somewhat shakily. ciel shut his eye, his hand paused on your back. "do not fret, my dear. justice will be brought." he reassured, itching under your cheek. you can't help but lean against him in reassurance, making a soft mewling noise. he hummed and ran his hand softly down your back to further comfort you. a bit more of carriage riding and you find yourself drifting off into a sleep yet again. that is until you hear a commotion in the back your carriage. you hear the servants clamoring behind you and your carriage stops, breaking you out of your half-asleep state and lift your head. you hear the servants clamoring about about a baby, then a crash, with finny apologizing, earning your attention. oh no.. did finny actually- you turn back in time to see the servants staring in a near traumatized bewilderment as the old woman stumbled on, pushing her stroller, mumbling about a "bad dog" or some such. bad dog? what bad dog? what's in that pram? as if he read your thoughts, ciel presses down on you gently, holding you in his lap, signaling his order to stay put. Whatever it is, he must not want you to see. "that's why we're here." he suddenly states. "apparently some of the villagers have been violently killed or gone missing." you stiffen right then and there at those words. "the village has shrunk to a 3rd of its size in the last 10 years. it is our task to find out why." he places a hand on your head. "and put an end to it." he stated directing it mostly towards you. you swallow a knot in your throat and muster a nod earning a comforting itch behind the ears. you get yourself situated back into ciel's lap and decide to try and sleep until you reach your destination.
~~~~~~~

after what felt like a few hours, ciel taps your head. you blink sleepily and stretch, looking up at your master curiously. "we're almost to the village." you blink again and sit up, looking ahead, ears perking at a large lake with the small cluster near it, presumably the village. you straighten up and shake off, straightening your (color) fur and traditionally lick your paw and running it over your chest fur and head to smooth it down. ciel snickers in satisfaction. "good girl. must be as tidy as possible to make a good impression here." you let out a small purr. "yep. who knows how they'd react to a cat in a dog village." sebastian sudden sighed, a bit bitterly. "indeed.."

you finally come up to the village and it was a bit decrepit, but cozy. you marvel at the sights of the olden village, soon catching the sight of a presumable dog pound where a man is playing with a dog. you watch as the dog follow orders with no hesitation, to be rewarded with praise. this both amused and impressed you because from what you understood, not every animal understood human dialect. not all the time. dogs did, though. they'd willing do what a human tells them to do, as long as it was done with care and treats and a bit of punishment. and depending on how it's done, they can be loyal friends or vicious killers. like me and master ciel...

but... you just wished they had their OWN independence, like your kind. they almost seem dependant on humans at times. and boy, sebastian sure sees it differently. he doesn't seem to be fond of how a dog is willing to have a human "manipulate" them. to do what a human tells them to do, all that willy nilly. you hear him muttering about it out loud. loud enough to bring ciel's attention. "if you're trying to say something, say it." The boy growls. sebastian has this smug aura around him as he speaks up. "it's nothing of interest, my lord. it's simply that while I love cats... I'm not especially fond of dogs." he says nonchalantly. he turns back with a smug grin on his face. "to be frank I hate them."

you blink, not sure if you should be taken aback by his frankness or not. Sure, he's a demon. It's his nature to be uncomfortably honest. But he doesn't like how loyal a dog is to a human. But truth be told, you aren't really any different from a dog, are you? you follow orders when given, no matter the circumstances to please your master and avoid punishment.. you're just more hesitant to do the more gruesome things and have the independence to do things on your own time. puff your cheeks in a pout at the thought. It's a choice...

"woof!" ciel suddenly pipes, making you look up for a moment. Defiance? Hmph! two can play this game! You smirk to your self, and loll your tongue and pant, earning ciel's attention. "arf!" you piped your best bark, making ciel chuckle himself. "at least sweet (name) gets it." he says, rubbing your head, while you "wag" your tail with your tongue lolling out. "Good girl."
