Lando and I both walked in the paddock together for the last race of the season. I knew we both slept horribly.

My heart was racing so I could only imagine how fast his heart was beating.

He qualified second yesterday, he needed to win this race, otherwise Max would snatch another championship and even though he was also part of our team, that was the last thing I wanted.

I wanted to make Lando champion, that's all I wanted.

"Don't be nervous, you'll do great" I squeezed his hand a little as we were walking to the hospitality. It would be our last moments alone before everyone would be around us.

"You'll do great too baby" He smiled a little. "And no matter what happens, don't forget I love you"

I nodded. No matter what happened today, we would still have each other.

We walked in the hospitality and everyone seemed just as nervous as we were. Red Bull would win no matter what - it was going between Max and Lando, but everyone had their favorite and surprisingly, most of them wanted Lando to win.

Max Fewtrell and Nate were standing together, it was good to see that they seemed to get along.

"So you're gonna make LN champion today?" Max Fewtrell nudged my side. "I certainly hope so" I winked at him. I obviously had to stay impartial but then again, everyone knew I wanted Lando to win.

The wait was long, way to long, I just wanted the race to start and get over with it.

"Let's go River" GP patted my shoulder and I got up immediately. "Damn you're eager to get this started" he chuckled.

"I'm honestly eager to get this over with" I laughed. I was gonna be so relieved when Lando crossed the finish line, preferably in first place.

I was wearing the fingerless gloves I got from Lando, I needed some confidence today, I needed to know I could do it.

After 30 laps, Max was still leading the race, but I remember Lando saying he didn't feel too comfortable on the mediums.

I was gonna pit him first, to put him on the hards. Normally we would pit Max first because he was leading, but I was gonna listen to my gut right now.

"Call Lando in, we are gonna put him on the hards" I pushed the radio button of his engineer, who communicated the message to Lando. "Copy" he replied.

This was risky because Max was gonna notice that we were pitting Lando first, but I honestly didn't care at this point.

I said I would make Lando champion and I was gonna keep my promise.

Just as Lando came in the pits, I felt a sting in my stomach, I got kinda used to it by now but I also knew it wasn't normal at all.

I looked behind me, Lando was sitting in his car and looked in my direction, even though it were only a couple of seconds, it felt like it was just the two of us.

But it wasn't the two of us, it was the three of us.

Lando drove out of the pits and I waved to Christian, who was standing with the mechanics, he was way too nervous to sit on the pitwall with us.

He wouldn't say it, but he definitely wanted Lando to win as well.

He looked at me with a frown on his face until I gestured him to come to me. He put his headset in his neck and walked up to me. "What's wrong?"

"Can you please make sure there will be a doctor ready as soon as this race is finished?"

"Why? What happened?" He looked at the screens behind me, trying to figure out if one of their cars was gonna crash or blow up or whatever.

"Just..." I flinched a little. "Call a doctor"

I said as I turned back to my screens.

40 laps to go. I could do this.
