Chapter 22

Third Person

Glitter Soul squeezes her eyes shut the moment right before impact. When the expected searing pain doesn't come, she takes the time to open them and truly process what's going on. There was a distant crash, and it sounded like it was a huge one at that. Glitter Soul looks up at her attacker. His teeth were clenched together, lips drawn back in a silent growl. She then glances at Ulric and her partner, Glitter Spring. Ulric is still sitting, resting from his bout with Rascal. Glitter Spring stays alert from the fighting that took place just moments before. Both their attention is turned to the sound in the distance.
     Glitter Soul looks up, realizing that the extra dark atmosphere emitted from Rascal's ink and book has disappeared.
'Strange....' She thinks. 'Is this... what I think it is?'
     She once again turns her attention back to where the sound came from. Glitter Soul looks just in time to see a fist-pumping Glitter Sunny and a fearful but excited Glitter Peace running from the tunnel they went through to the hall of the Wheel of Doom.
     Glitter Sunny raises her fist in triumph, "Heck yeah, Soul! We did it! Reinforcements have arrived!"

Your POV

     A huge wave of relief floods through me as I see the two of them returning together. And in one piece, no doubt!
     I turn to look up at the livid Rascal, a smirk on my face, "What's the matter Rascal? I thought you played Poker. The key to victory is to keep your opponent from knowing that you have the upper hand!"
     Rascal looks down at me and snarls, kicking me down and smashing me into the floor. I stand up, wiping my mouth with the back of my hand. His move hasn't wiped my smile off in the slightest. He knows that I know we're gonna win.
Kelsey and Lily joined in on the fight, Kelsey immediately jumping up to strike and Lily running over to back me up.
"You're gonna have to try a lot harder than this to bring us down!" Kelsey lands a hit on Rascal, knocking him back.
I put myself in a stance, ready to jump in, "Sunny! Peace! I'm gonna need you to hold him still! You too, Spring!"
April smirks, joining Kelsey. Lily follows close behind.
     I glance at the distant fields where I know Emily and Chloe are fighting. I grit my teeth, Hang in there a little while longer you two, we've almost finished!
     Rascal wards off the attacks of the others as if they were a group of pesky flies, "You you, why you sneaky conniving little wretch! You went straight for the very heart of the Shadow Realm?! What possessed you to make such an audacious move like that?!"
I smirk at Rascal, "Can you really expect to take the win in poker if you don't go all out?"
Rascal snarls, moving to make a strike at me before he's struck down by Kelsey, "Stay salty all you want, ya clown!"
April turns to look at Lily, "Peace! Give 'em a taste of your lightning!"
Lily's eyes widen in surprise before she nods in determination.
I move back before quickly moving in and landing another kick on Rascal, who was still trying to make means of his shock after the destruction of the Wheel of Doom. Rascal looks up at me, gritting his teeth. Again, he approaches as to attack me.
I grin, "Rascal, you're all distracted!"
"Sparkleee Lightning!!!"
I move out of the way to reveal a charged up Glitter Peace, who releases her lightning directly into Rascal.
I know this is my chance. I look at all my friends: April, Lily, Kelsey. Then I think of Emily and Chloe who are out there fighting with all they've got. Finally, I look at Ulric, who came into my ordinary, steady life and proceeded to completely knock it all over. I find him looking at me, injured yet still determined. He nods, giving me an encouraging nod. I smile, feeling a huge increase in spirit. I look down at my Glitter Pact to see it glowing.
I look down at Rascal, who was trying to recover from being severely shocked.
     "Glitter Force!" I raise my hand, wielding a huge burst of violet energy. "Sparkleee Strike!"
     I bring down my arm, commanding the energy to slash down onto Rascal as two crescent-shaped hits. I can't see what ends up becoming of him due to the bright glow from my magic. The others end up planting their boots on the ground and standing firm against the blast.
     The air eventually clears, and I look to see a black scourge on the now gritty stone where Rascal once lay.
     "Dang Soul, you really got him good...." Kelsey walked up behind me, putting her hand on my shoulder.
     "Rascal never was like the rest of us." Ulric finally stood up, groaning in pain as he wobbles over to me. "None of us ever had any clue as to where he came from. He wasn't originally a pixie like me and the others. After seeing how you dealt with him, I'm now inclined to guess that maybe he was a creation of Emperor Nogo himself. A denizen of the shadows with no real living body or soul."
     I quickly go over to him and let him lean on me, nodding my head in understanding, "Yeah, that does make sense...."
     I hear a collective and confused 'HUH?' from April and Lily and I give them a half-hearted smile, "Yeeeah, there's still a little bit that I have to catch you up on in regards to Ulric."
     Kelsey just sighs, "We'll leave the conversation for when we're all back in the Library of Legends in one piece. Right now we've got bigger fish to fry."
     I nod at her, "Yeah, for starters we need to see how Emily and Chloe are doing. Hopefully we can reason with Brute and Brooha, convince them to stand down."
     Pop and Candy trot over to the rest of us. Pop takes the lead, "Yes, the well-being of Glitter Lucky and Glitter Breeze should be the next thing we worry about."
     I look at the others, "Alright! Well, let's go."
