"I wasn't expecting you
Like a punch that knocks the wind out
I think you're changin' everything

That Feeling When – Dagny

Leah slammed the door of the diner behind her and tried to retrieve the keys of the jeep from her pocket. She knew that Felix was following her, but perhaps, if she ignored him enough, he would decide not to press her further on the matter.

She couldn't believe that Felix knew about the imprinting.

She felt humiliated. She had thought she could live with this additional... problem, trying to distance herself as much as possible from home. Maybe find a town near the Canadian border, with woods nearby, so she could continue living her life in peace. Ignoring her fucking imprinting.

But no. Of course not.

Her life had to be complicated.

She reached her car and opened the door to get in, but a strong arm with almost translucent skin stood in her way.

"What did I say? I will follow you."

"Suits yourself, I'm leaving," she replied, trying to get into the car.

Felix approached, blocking her from entering the car. "If you don't want to explain it to me, I can always go ask your friends in Forks."

At those words, Leah froze. She wasn't worried about the two packs or her family. No, at that moment, the wolf inside her was thinking only of one thing: if Felix approached the reservation, he would be killed, that was an event she couldn't even fathom.

And that, in the end, was the problem with imprinting: she would do anything to protect him, even go against her own family.

His eyes watched her carefully; he had probably seen how what he had said had sent her into panic. And surely, he had misunderstood why, as he flashed her a smirk she had seen that very morning in the glade. The expression of someone who thought they had the enemy in their grasp.

"Well, I believe I've convinced you. Now, get back into the diner, so we can finish our conversation."

Leah gritted her teeth in frustration. Felix had finally moved, so Leah opened the car door again to get in.

"What did I just say?" he growled.

"Get in the car," she answered.

Felix raised an eyebrow. Leah was aware that, somehow, her caustic attitude intrigued him. God help her, she would use any advantage against him.

Until that moment, she had been convinced she was driving without a real destination. In reality, her mind was leading her to the only place where she could find some clarity: Garibaldi Park, north of Vancouver. Garibaldi Lake was one of her father's favourite spots for fishing. As a child, he had taken her there several times on weekend getaways with his friends to fish and spend a few days camping in the Canadian park.

The entrance she wanted to use was the one closest to the lake, giving them just under two hours of travel. An eternity of time.

Despite her jeep not being a small car by any means, Felix seemed a bit cramped, but he wasn't complaining. He gazed out of the window, observing the scenery.

For some strange reason, after just five minutes of the journey, Leah felt the need to make small talk.

"So... first time in Canada?"
