Leah's POV

"Leah darling, Y/N is on her way to see you." I heard Mum say from the kitchen.

I hadn't moved for days other than to go to the toilet, I was still awaiting surgery and my mental state was really bad, so I was spending every minute lying on the sofa, trying to watch TV but not being able to concentrate.

I couldn't get it out of my head, "you've tore your ACL, you'll be out for a minimum of nine months. Surgery will be next week, that's all booked in for you."

It was breaking me knowing how long I would be out for. It had only been 4 days since it happened, but in those four days I had felt intense pain and the lowest I have ever felt mentally. I don't think I have ever cried this much in my life.

When the doorbell rang, Mum was upstairs doing other things. I tried to get up to answer it, but I couldn't. I wasn't getting used to the crutches and every time I needed to use them I'd get angry because of how much I struggled.

"Mum!" I shouted.

"I'm coming darling it's okay." she replied as she came sprinting down the stairs to answer the door. I heard her say hello to Y/N before she came in the living room to see me.

Y/N's POV

"How is she?" I asked as I walked in.

"Not great," Amanda started. "But she's really looking forward to seeing you."

We went into the living room to find Leah staring into space from the sofa.

"You alright?" Amanda asked her.

"Yeah, I'm fine, sorry I zoned out." Leah responded, seeming pretty out of it.

"It's okay sweetheart, I'll go get you some more painkillers." Amanda said, leaving me to talk to Leah. I took my shoes off and sat down next to her on the sofa. I looked over at her, I'd never seen her look so sad before. It was awful seeing her like that.

"Leah, talk to me." I said, holding her hand.

"Minimum of nine months out." she said, before she burst into tears.

"I know, and it will be tough but everyone is here to support you, and once you've had that surgery you'll be able to start training again and doing some other things away from football, get your head straight again." I said, trying to make her feel better.

"I'm scared I'll not be able to cope." Leah wept.

"You will, trust me. I believe in you and so does this entire country. Do you need me to get you anything or do anything?" I asked.

"Can you just lie next to me and let me cry? I need to get it out and I'm sick of crying to my Mum, I feel like such a burden to her right now." Leah responded. Her response broke me, but I knew I needed to hold it together to help her.

"Of course you can, but I promise you're not a burden to her at all. All we want is to help you and get you better, okay? Come here." I said, gesturing her to put her head onto my chest. She cried for a while, until she fell asleep on me. Amanda came in to check on us with some more medication for Leah, smiling as she saw us together.

"Is she alright?" she whispered.

"Quite emotional, but she'll get there." I reassured her as she went back upstairs to continue her jobs.
