Warning: Emetophobia (one small mention)
Leah's POV
"Leah just take a step back," the medic said to me calmly. All I could think about was how he was so calm when Y/N was lying on the ground so out of it.
"I can't, I can't leave her!" I said, feeling a lump forming in my throat as I spoke.
"She's going to be fine, we'll get her checked out in the medical room and if we need to do anything else we will, for now though you need to get back out there and play, bring a win home for her." The other medic said. She was also so calm, which boiled my blood.
"I don't get how you guys are so calm," I started, my lip quivering as I could feel myself getting upset.
"Trust me, they're not." Beth chipped in as she sat down next to me. "We all just need to keep moving forward and get Y/N the best help that she can get."
At that moment, I started crying because it hit me that this was a lot more serious than I first thought. Y/N was hardly moving, only shaking gently. She was laying on the ground, not able to open her eyes because it was too bright, even though it was night time, but as she heard me break down, she started to cry too.
"Leah? Is that you?" I heard.
"Yes my darling it's me. I'm right here okay? You're going to be fine." I wept, deep down not knowing if what I was saying was actually the truth, this woman from the other team had knocked her down good.
"I'm scared." Y/N said as loud as she could, it only came out as a whisper.
"Don't be scared angel, we're all here for you." Beth said, helping me stand up as the medics helped Y/N off the pitch. I couldn't take my eyes off her. Her almost lifeless body being stretchered off right in front of my eyes, and I couldn't do anything about it. It felt as if my heart had shattered into millions of pieces.
*An hour before, kick off approaching.*
"Why do I feel so anxious about this game?" Y/N asked me as we headed into the tunnel to line up.
"I don't know bub, are you okay?" I replied.
"I just feel scared, as if something really bad is going to happen." she said.
"Hey don't think like that! You're going to smash it, we all are. We can win this I'm sure." I said back, not knowing if I was telling the truth but still trying to console Y/N to help her feel less anxious. We were playing Spain, a team that is known for being amazing, with so many excellent players. Of course I was nervous.
We headed out onto the pitch and got the game underway. The first ten minutes went well, gaining possession and having many shots on target, despite not scoring. However as time went on, this quickly turned around. Spain scored, from a corner as well. Jennifer Hermoso putting it in the back of the net. There was no way Mary was going to get it, but as the goal went in and they celebrated, I could see her panicking about it so I ran over.
"You're okay Mazza, that was a good goal so don't beat yourself up." I said, rubbing her shoulder. "There's no way you could've got that one."
"I could've. I need to do better." she replied.
"Just keep pushing, we're gonna win this." I said, giving her a reassuring smile as I walked away to restart the game.
As we neared the end of the first half, Y/N was smashing it, pushing past the Spanish players and making some great tackles. I couldn't be prouder of her, pushing through her nerves. I knew things were going to be fine, or at least I thought.
