Chapter 23 – Johto Express

Emma looked at Bugsy with concern. The both of them had opted to rest up at Maisy’s home. Luke had prepared a mouth-watering lunch for them both of them.  Emma had wolfed down her food in an instant. One while night of training was tough, but one whole night of training with a gym leader like Bugsy was way beyond that, not to mention famishing. Bugsy, however, had not even noticed the food on his table.

“Umm… Leader Bugsy?”

“Huh?” He said without even looking up. “Later, I’m thinking.”

Emma exhaled sadly. He had been like that since they had their little chat about Emma’s new Pokémon.

Maisy walked in. “Is he going to be alright?”

“Oh, hi Maisy.” Emma greeted her. “Yeah he had been like that for a while now.”

“What happened?”

Emma took out her pokeball and pushed the release button. Swablu immediately appeared and landed onto Emma’s head.

“Oh my Arceus! It’s soooo cute!” Maisy squealed. She quickly stepped forward and patted it gently.

“Slow down, Maisy. It is not a toy.”

“Did you just catch it?”

“Yeah… And this is the reason why Bugsy is… Like that.” Emma said as she gestured towards the dazed leader.

“What?” She laughed cheekily. “He doesn’t look the type who would get jealous THAT easily.”

“What? No! No. that’s not it!” Emma shook her head vigorously. She quickly stole a glance at Bugsy. He did not even notice. “Pokémon are starting to appear out of their natural environments. This is an extremely worrying trend and we suspect…” Emma hesitated to continue.

“Suspect what?”

“This is purely our own theory, but we suspect that the legendary Pokémon might be involved in this.”

“Is that a good thing or a bad thing?” Maisy gave her a puzzled expression.

Emma sighed. “I really don’t know, Maisy. I just hope that we are wrong about this. Legendary Pokémon are notorious for causing massive damage to cities and humans. Just look at the awakening of Groudon and Kyogre in Hoenn a long time ago. The effects could be felt even from here!”

“So… what are your plans now?”

“I really don’t know. With Bugsy in this condition, my training can no longer continue. I think it is time to contact Isaac and see what he thinks.” Emma said as she took her Pokégear out.

“Ohh! Isaac!” Maisy winked at her.

Emma just ignored her and dialled his number.

“A week ago, a strange person was spotted loitering around the docks. Usually, people there would wear uniforms or some sort of clothing that would distinguish them as sailors. This man, however, was wearing a black suit and was wondering around the docks, taking pictures. When approached, he quickly bolted.”

“Black suit eh?” Isaac suddenly said.

“Yeah, what about it?”

“Hmm… I’ve noticed whenever team rocket are spotted, they are either wearing a black or white suits. Don’t know if this is their new trend.”

“Anyway, the people at the docks did not take much notice of it and simply let it slide.”

“How did you link to Team Rocket from that?”
